I think I'm going to wait until Madman releases Sailor Moon Crystal on Blu-Ray and DVD. I'm not going to purchase Viz Media's sets until I know how the PQ is. The last thing I want is to spend almost a lifetime trying to sell their sets on eBay and Gumtree...

Well Crystal is brand new, so it is going to look better than the streams.

Oh, I understand that. However, I'm referring to their appalling Blu-Ray treatment of the original series...

That's still apples and oranges: a dated SD upscale versus a modern HD digital master. Crystal's release isn't going to be botched just because the original was compromised by circumstances.

But it could be using Gargantia's disaster as a reference point if we're looking for any reason of concern.

Gargantia looks terrible, yes, but nowhere near as bad as Sailor Moon which is the bottom of the barrel for awful anime discs where even Q-TEC upscales are better.

There is reason to worry given Subatomic Digital will be doing the authoring, but not reason enough to expect Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon R. Honestly people keep blowing things out of proportion. VIZ has had problematic discs before (Nura, Lagrange, Moribito (though that compares to the JP disc a bit) to name a few), but not everything they've ever put out is (many of their discs such as Accel World, Coppelion, and Blood Lad have been authored by Justin Sevakis). Nearly every R1 company has put out bad discs before, it's not just a VIZ problem.

Like Sentai for example has put out discs where somewhere or throughout they put out discs that look as problematic as those Nura BD's. Penguindrum (and it's even worse in motion), Colorful (towards the end of the movie), and Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere (episode 7 looks very pixelated in the second half, the complete collection release fixed this however). And that's not even mentioning the audio problems (Kids on the Slope wasn't the only show with that issue of mono-audio in the left speaker).

(Thankfully they rarely have discs that problematic and seem to have improved, but they still can have issues.)

FUNimation made an already not so good-looking Blu-ray release look even worse.
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/169134

And I could go on and on (and bring in even many JP examples, they can have issues too). VIZ Media is not the devil of anime distributors.

And how about you stop *****ing about something just to ***** about it. I will admit the video is not perfect by any means, but you are making it sound like it is like watching a VHS, which it isn't.

Same feelings regarding SMC s1/2. But the animation of the currently airing season 3 is so much better - they did change the teams - and I do like the storylines better than the original anime so I'll be purchasing too.

But I'll wait for BN's bluray sale

As much as I wanna pre order this I'm not liking the price. It's $62.99 on amazing for regular edition and $72.99 for the limited edition. On Rightstuf it's $54 for regular edition and $62 for limited edition and you get some dream catcher thing (which to me looks cheap) and you get art cards.

why can't the stores put this at a lower price? I mean for $62 I can buy something more important. Looks like I'm gonna have to wait a bit longer to get this. Oh well

Part of it is how Warner Bros. has been distributing VIZ's releases for like 7 years. VIZ titles get steep discounts only in certain situations. Like during Rightstuf Holiday Sales, only a select number of a certain release will be allowed for that, once the quantity is gone, it goes back to the regular price.

This. And considering that FUNi recently entered into a similar distribution agreement with Universal, the same is bound to apply to all current and future releases from them as well.

Omg have you seen the prices for Crystal on Amazon there crazy! Amazon has sailor moon Crystal blu Ray at a price that's not cheap. Not sure if this is official or if it will go down to a lower price. But Amazon has Sailor Moon Crystal Viz Media release at $80 for limited edition blu Ray and $70 for regular edition blu Ray that's crazy! Meanwhile rigjtstu has it cheaper $54 for regular blu Ray and $62 for limited edition blu Ray.

Yeah, it seems like ever since they upped the price on Prime their quality has gone down. At least they attempt to make up for it with additional months on your Prime account and free store credit, but still. I shouldn't have to have something I preordered the day it went up not ship out until a week after it comes out. It is supposed to be at my door on the day of release. Then there is the fact that I have had three packages recently that just disappeared in transit.
