While I do expect that movie studios are going to make changes from the original source material, they almost have to if they're going to get people to go to the theaters, but these studios need to also balance the changes with what fans will expect. When you make such drastic changes to a film franchise that has its origins in the comic book industry, you also have to remain faithful to that source material.
While I have no problems with casting supporting characters of a superhero movie with that of a different ethnic race (Nick Fury, for instance), you're going to need to select an actor that the audience will accept. Samuel Jackson is so widely respected among movie fans that there was no controversy because he absolutely nailed it. However, Fox screwed the latest Fantastic Four up because they deviated from the original source material on such a massive scale that the fans of the Fantastic Four rebelled. While I have no doubt that Michael B. Jordan may be a good actor but the fact is, the man is not a respectable name in the movie business. Not only that, but they changed the dynamic that is Johnny and Susan Storm and made them adopted siblings, Trank transformed this team from what is supposed to be 'Marvel's First Family of Superheroes' but into a dysfunctional group of people with disabilities. Not only is that an insult to every disabled person out there but Trank was a moron to turn "superpowers" into a disability. If you're going to cast Johnny Storm as an African American hero, then you also need to do the same with Susan Storm. But the biggest problem I have with Michael B. Jordan is that I didn't know of him from the Josh Trank movie "Chronicle" but about how the moron was in the news almost every other week, whining about how he wants to portray a black Spiderman. That's all I ever heard about was Michael B. Jordan whining and crying about how much he wanted to be Spiderman in a Sony Pictures movie. Now, Idris Elba has been trying to convince movie studio execs to cast himself as a black Superman and while part of me cringes at the very idea, I would probably give that a chance because Idris Elba a shot because he, at least, has a number of respectable films under his belt and he's a pretty decent actor, almost on the same level as Samuel Jackson. |

Samual Jackson was the blueprint for the Ultimate Nick Fury so he did have to nail it. It was him in the first place. He just accepted the film role. Did u have a problem w Halle Berry as Catwoman? She had a career going into and it still sucked. Yet i doubt you were measuring whether or not Anthony Mackie was good enough for the Falcon. |

The problem is that Josh Trank made too many mistakes. I'm not referring to Fox Studio's interference with the production but rather Trank's vision of the film.
1. The casting of Johnny Storm as an African American. This wouldn't have been so horrible if Trank had also cast Susan Storm as an African American. If you're going to alter the ethnic makeup of these characters, you need to stick with the source material. Johnny and Sue are biological siblings, same parents, they were NOT adopted. 2. Josh Trank describing the Fantastic Four as people with disabilities. The one thing the Fantastic Four are not is NOT disabled. They are four people who were bathed in cosmic rays and were given superhuman powers. 3. Josh Trank completely ignored the fandom. While movies aren't going to be 100% adapted from the comics, when you adapt these kind of films, you cannot disrespect the very same comic book fans who are going to go and see your movie because they are going to make up the majority of the theater-goers. 4. Josh Trank slamming the movie before it even showed up at the movie theaters. If you have a problem with the movie studio, you talk to the movie executives in private, you don't slam the very movie you're producing, in asocial media, talk shows or on youtube. The man showed very poor judgment. It's just highly doubtful that Fox Studios will ever give Josh Trank another chance to produce or direct a licensed franchise. Far as my comments about Michael B. Jordan goes, I stand by my comments above. The man is just not competent enough to headline a movie like this. Perhaps next time, Josh Trank will listen to the fans and stop ignoring them. Trank was 100% responsible for the failure of this film because of the firestorm of controversy he created over the movie. |

This FF wasnt bathed in cosmic rays. The Ultimate version has a different take. Why should the director listen to fans that dont know the source material? |

Is that your idea of lobbying for his own Superman movie? Seriously???? |

What went wrong with Fantastic Four is that Josh Trank didn't listen to the central demographic of fans that would be going to see this movie. The fact is, this film isn't in the MCU where fans understood why Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch couldn't be classified as mutants. Where it concerns Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, they really didn't identify as mutants in most of the comics they appeared in, since they were mostly aligned with the Avengers than with the X-Men family of comics. Additionally, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are brother and sister and kept with that origin. The only thing that changed was whether they could be identified as mutants.
With Johnny Storm and Sue Storm, they were no longer biological siblings but that Sue Storm was changed to an adopted sibling. What anyone in the adoption industry will tell you is that adoption agencies stray far away from placing white children with black families. It's just so unbelievable that it defies description. The simple is, that this film didn't fail because of a single change but rather that it failed because of a combination of factors, which is what I posted previously. But, I believe the major contributing factor was the casting of Johnny Storm and then Josh Trank doing interviews and going on social media trashing the movie before it even hit theaters. |

Kill me now. I don't care.
Maybe I'm weird, maybe I'm crazy, I don't know. I just don't see how this movie can be considered an "abomination" to be banned from every possible realm in the multiverse. ![]() It features terrific visuals, GREAT special effects and CGI, thrilling direction and good actors. The script is not bad at all, it's a good script - THE MOVIE just required 20-25 minutes of additional film to expand Doctor Doom and the chemistry between the Fantastic Four. That's it. Too short. Missed chance, missed opportunity. I loved the clear "Cronenbergesque" feel they cared to reproduce, I loved that they were inventive enough to change/twist the origins and the overall FF story... I loved the bravery and the balls they had. It's a wonderful movie anyway and FAR better than the previous two efforts FOX produced. I know there will be a total mass attack on me and this thread now. I don't care. I love movies and I stand by my opinion when I happen to love a movie, no matter what. |

![]() What can I say, just put this thread into the thread you want. It's okay. But stop making me look like a "villain" just for opening a thread on a film I like. It's ridiculous. "Plain old..." this part sounds ridiculous. |
