Glad to know i wasn't the only one disappointed with the 3D effects. For a while feared it was my monitor. ![]() |

Got all three in your snapshot and love them all. Do you have House of Wax? Highly recommended. GOG is a good one too and despite the write up, so is Dial M for Murder. |

One of my absolute favourite movies of this century. I LOVE John Carter. I agree that the 3D is really good too.

I watched The Young and Prodigious T. S. Spivet tonight. An interesting story with a little awkward pacing. As far as the 3d goes, it is great 90% of the time and has quite a few well done pop-outs. For 3d alone, this tentatively breaks into my top ten. I'll have to review my collection first, which is starting to become large.

A buddy of mine for the UK-based AV site told me that ICFOS is very good 3D despite the movie being so 'old'

Just arrived from Amazon Germany:
![]() ![]() Dark Star 3D is some kind of bootleg because it comes on a BD-R, which I'm not too happy about, but I guess they would all be like that so either I accept that or send it back. I checked it out up to the end of the credits, no pop-out of course but what I saw of the conversion was interesting - the ship seemed more claustrophobic while the primitive effects came alive a bit more. The starfield behind the credits seemed pushed back in the centre, with the left and right sides kept forward, creating a V shape. I'll have to watch it all at some point, it's one of my favourite films so I was intrigued by a 3D version but I need to get over the fact that it's on a BD-R, that annoys me more than anything else... Is it a bootleg of an actual manufacturered 3D or one of those Asian rip offs? If so, is it better than what you could have done with simulated 3D? Last edited by Joe D.; 11-12-2016 at 05:08 PM. |

As for the quality of the conversion, from what I saw it was better and worse than what my TV could do autoconverting. My TV tends to produce good depth but pulls lights out further than they ought to be. It's not going to be a good conversion I'm sure. But I need to watch the whole thing to make a proper assessment and Amazon just delivered these two beauties, so I think they're up next to watch: ![]() ![]() |

Watched House Of Wax in 3D. Very little popouts. I've never seen it before, although I've seen clips as a kid.

I watched The Secret Life Of Pets in 3D, having previously enjoyed it in 2D.
![]() Making a nice change from the Despicable Me series, this time Illumination don't save their best 3D for the end credits, the film is packed with strong-medium pop-outs (and pop-ins). Most of the non-action stuff takes place at screen level but pretty much every animal in the movie protrudes out of it at some point. The volume and separation are great, depth is less adventurous much of the time (the film takes what I call the "fish tank" approach to room interiors) but pretty good outdoors and in the more actiony sequences. The film comes across as very Pixar-esque in many ways but when the 3D is let loose it's more like Dreamworks than Pixar. Naturally I'd have preferred it to go stronger more often but I was very pleased with this one overall and would absolutely recommend it over the 2D version. |

Jurassic Park / Jurassic World
![]() ![]() In a double feature (rewatch) For me, both conversions seemed quite similar in terms of depth and pop out. There are on the slightly stronger side with very nice volume most of the time. They also share a fair amount of conversion errors with all the complex jungle scenery. They are still very satisfying. The main difference is the general image quality. The amount of detail in Jurassic World is insane and in a whole other league than Jurassic Park. The latter looks much better than the awful 2D disc but is still quite filtered and therefore low on detail. |
