Unlike most movies, Laika films don't get the same release in Canada that they do in the US... that's why all their previous films (Coraline, Paranorman, Box Trolls) have had different cover art in Canada. Although the discs are usually the same, or at least use the same transfers and have the same extras, eOne usually has inferior packaging. No lenticular slipcovers, etc. For that reason, I've always imported the USA releases of Laika's films.

This time, I don't think eOne is even releasing a 3-D Blu-Ray, perhaps because of the diminishing number of 3DTVs, or some other reason that's made them buy into the idea that 3-D is a dying format. It could also be because this is the first Laika release where the 2D and 3D are on separate discs... so whereas before they just took the US Blu-Ray (which also had the 3-D included) and put it out, this time they would've needed to produce two distinct HD releases (a 2D combo and 3D combo) as well as the regular DVD, and they were just too cheap/lazy to do so. Personally, if they aren't going to release the film properly, I don't think they should even be permitted to buy the rights to distribute the film in Canada, but that seems to be the way it is.

Fortunately I have to drive down to Niagara Falls tomorrow, so I'm going to hop over the border to a Target or Best Buy or something and pick up the proper release.
