I don't think the 3D was as strong as Force Awakens but I will need to watch Rogue One again on disc to confirm. The 3D was very nice however and well done throughout. There were plenty of scenes and set pieces and locations that made great use of 3D and the whole movie is visually impressive from start to finish.

As a movie though I was fairly unimpressed, hopefully it'll be a grower. I definitely enjoyed it more than Force Awakens as it doesn't feel like such a rehash/ remake like that movie did. I did think the first two acts were quite dull and the characters throughout were quite dull, a generally good cast wasted on paper thin roles. The third act certainly amps things up a bit although that's when it feels like we're watching a remake of Return of the Jedi or Phantom Menace with a land battle, a space battle and a personal mission all occurring simultaneously. It seems the folk at Lucasfilm/ Disney are really struggling to give us something fresh with these new movies.

With more compelling characters and a tighter story (the movie is too long and takes too long to get to the good stuff) this would have been a much more engaging experience. I'm glad I enjoyed it more than Force Awakens but I feel these Star Wars movies could be a lot more interesting if they just let loose and did something truly fresh and new. Rogue One is probably as good as I could have hoped though considering it's a story where you know the good guys succeed ahead of watching and
[Show spoiler]you probably know they all die ahead of time too, due to not cropping up or being mentioned in a New Hope (apart from a mention that they all die lol).
I'm hopeful that down the line Disney will give us some fresh Star Wars stories rather than just pumping out fan service movies. Of course with a Han Solo and Boba Fett movie on the horizon, it doesn't look like that'll be happening anytime soon lol.

Also whilst they did their best bringing back old characters through CGI I thought they might as well just recast those roles. Seeing as they've re-casted Han Solo and Lando for the Han Solo movie, why not recast for a young Leia or Tarkin? The CG is obviously a long way from being truly convincing so it just becomes distracting
