if analog plays clean each time, but, when you switch back with the same source device to digital you can narrow your focus.

my old Onkyo 5507 pre-amp, had an issue just like what I described. it had an hdmi board issue and at any given moment produced crackling noises in the right front channel from any digital source. when I used analog from all sources into the pre-amp, audio was flawless.

I'm not saying your having this type of an issue, but, I did experience something similar before. turning on and off dynamic "anything" did nothing it was a digital issue in my case.

I have had no such issue with either of my Marantz pre-amp or receiver.
No analog out on my player, just HDMI.
What gets me is that this issue is very difficult to monitor and narrow down because it happens so sporadically.

if you have a cable box and it happens when using it, the cable box (or dish or whatever) should have analog out both multichannel and stereo, try using those to see if it goes away.

I read this somewhere else:
Here are a couple of images that show the differences between RLO 0db and RLO 10db both at -10db MV (master volume) levels which is a fairly common level on "movie night" for a lot of us. You can see that when the RLO is set to 10db and a MV setting of -10db, there is no difference than with DEQ OFF. It only works from -10.5db MV and lower, so you get some of the nice bass boost and surround enhancement when listening at say -25db MV, but it's not as aggressive as 0db RLO.

Graph c = MV -10db / Magenta DEQ OFF / Teal DEQ ON With a 10db RLO (no difference)
Graph B = MV -10db / Magenta DEQ OFF / Teal DEQ ON With a 0db RLO: (bass & treble boost applied)

Help please!!!

I have an Oppo 83 connected to a Denon 3300W and that feeds my LG OLED 65 E6.

I am gettng an "invalid format" icon showing up on the TV screen when I switch to the Oppo blu-ray player. Any ideas how to fix this situation or what may be causing it?

The static noise hasnt been happening anymore...It might have been the microphones the actors/speakers were using. I also lowered Dialogue Volume by 1.5db and re-adjusted + and - speaker wires going into center speaker just to make sure they weren't coming lose

there ya go rock..you are learning.

Improper adjustment of sound levels to speakers can create distortion. The built in auto setups are unreliable. Setting the sound levels manually has always been the best way and the most accurate.Grab an old Radio Shack meter if you can find or borrow one, and read up one how to adjust each speaker using white noise test tones. It's so simple and so accurate and will make your system sound like it should.

very good advice...no static noise ever since I lowered Dialogue Volume and readjusted speaker cables connecting to center speaker

If we set up rear heights for atmos speakers, wha tspeaker configuration shpuld we select from the available configurations whne performing audyssey calibration? Obviously the pre-set configurations do not include a 'rear height' configuration, so should we just select 'in-ceiling' speaker configuration instead?

Does Audyssey include an upfiring Atmos configuration where the upfiring speakers are placed on top of side surround speakers rather than on top of front speakers?

yes, it's called dolby top middle or top rear. did you not check your denon speaker layout, it's in there graphically. you simply have to select it. check the speaker setup and the manual.

looks kinda like this, notice the modules on top of conventional speakers.

good luck and keep us posted.

I am not home right now so no I can't check my Audyssey setting options in my Denon 910. But my 'creative juices' are flowing and I was asking myself "What if I just placed my atmos speakers on top of my surround bookshelves ?". Usually I always think of front upfiring speakers or front heights...But what about side upfiring speakers? How would that compare acoustically to the other two configurations I just mentioned?

no idea, I don't use upfiring speakers so I can't comment. I'm sure someone who does will chime in.

In-ceiling speakers are the best option but not all of us can drill their ceilings. Sometimes we need to be creative
