Bourne Trilogy is the 2nd best for me after LOTR. I can't wait to get them as soon as they are available.

Is the list price correct?

All previous HD DVD titles, including ones that had $39.99 list prices, have had $29.99 list prices when they debuted on BD. Why is this not the case with these?
Yes, the price is correct. Whether or not it's changed down the line, we'll see.

Now let's nag incessantly for the Bourne films to be in steelbooks at Best Buy.
Nag Best Buy and not Universal. While Uni has done steelbooks before (Dune Special Edition), typically a retailer will order them as an exclusive.

When I say "partially" I mean that it was a factor, but we're talking sub 10% here. Incessant nagging will not be the deciding factor on releasing anything. In the case of bourne, think about it as more a proof of concept that they won't be losing a lot of sales not shipping in a holiday/Bourne 4 window because Bourne is incredibly popular. This is not true for 99% of catalog.

You talking just Universal, or all of the studios in general?

Reason I ask is that based on what I've been seeing so far, and I know Bill Hunt has been saying this for 6 month or so, it looks like 2009 is going to be a "blow out" year for studios finally releasing some "big gun catalog titles" on Blu. Already, just off the top of my head for 1Q, we have Braveheart (still officially unannounced, but strongly rumored), King Kong, Bourne Trilogy, Passion of the Christ, Batman 1-4, Amadeus, Pinnochio...that's just off the top of my head...and announcements are still trickling in.

price is definitely too much. $40 MSRP for catalog titles doesn't fly any more. Even Fox has learned this - IE MSRP for the Planet of the Apes collection is $139.99.

MSRP for the Bourne trilogy should be no more than the Unrated Comedy Collection ($90) since that one included a day and date release.

I love these movies, but wouldn't pay more than $60 for them as a set

I shouldn't really drag myself down to such a level but the reason I did purchase hd-dvd's was to watch movies such as the Bourne Trilogy a year or two before you get the chance to view them.

And as HD-DVD players and movies can be bought for practically nothing what the hell harm is there in doing so?

.

yea, im definitely going to wait until the price drops quite a bit before i get these movies

FINALLY! . But, as others have already stated....the price sucks donkey dong! This is ridiculous. I'll be waiting to buy until there is a good deal or the price drops.

The same went for King Kong, but something has changed in Uni's strategy, going more aggressive.

Bourne has been planned since June 2008, it was scheduled for November 4th to coincide with the DVD release but that was delayed. It's been locked in for January 27, 2009 since early September. Bourne has always been part of the strategy for Holiday 2008. However it was under embargo so very few knew.

To clarify,It was penciled in, it was never a certainty. Certainly the possibility was under embargo, but when they couldn't make November, it was not a hard target date until very recently. The discs were being done regardless.
