Just read about some studios pulling out due to director protests. Well done guys, common sense wins the day.

I don't really think common sense was the winner here. Tweets were sent, and it didn't seem like the senders really understood what the Clean Version was or how it was to work. Judd Apatow, who doesn't have a film on the list, blasted Sony in a tweet: "This is absolute bullshit and @sony and @SonyPictures is gonna get hell for F—ING with our movies. Shove the clean versions up your asses!"

The only thing I liked about the Clean Version idea is for families. Let's say you have more than one kid, for example let's just say two to make it easy.
1. Oldest is 7 and at the stage of getting more into live action movies.
2. Second is 3 and prefers Paw Patrol over everything else.

So the options are: 1. split up the kids for movie watching. 2. Watch all G movies and "hold the oldest back". 3. Watch a few older kid movies, but subject the youngest to things you don't feel comfortable with.

Now... Spider Man might have a few words that you really don't want your kids to hear, especially the 3 year old, like Damn, Hell, Ass (I don't know, just coming up with examples). The Clean Version could be safer for the entire family, when you have multiple children, where they are in different stages.

I don't think we need Clean Versions of Pineapple Express, or Showgirls, but popular Family movies that could just about be G with a few words or 1 second scenes cut, I don't feel is a bad option.

Another reason to avoid Digital when they are coming up with crap like this.

Note to industry: stop trying to **** with our entertainment. If you must do this shit, do it on mobile, tablets and let the film/tv fans enjoy grown up, passive entertainment. Tv shows are great at the moment. LEAVE THEM ALONE!

I guarantee they will push this to adult content like top dramas and movies. I fear for movies in their current form, I really do. What with this and 'clean' movies being a thing.

Dude...seriously...stop. It's a movie. It's a new category of movies. Your precious movies are not going anywhere.

Do you freak out when a burger restaurant adds chicken sandwiches to the menu? It seems like you only want the movie industry to be what YOU want. I'm sorry, the rest of us don't think that way.

So you don't feel that way? You would be happy if movies become 'choose your own adventure' cheesy crap?

I just feel it is such a very bad idea.

Wait, they pulled Sony's 'clean' version films?
Sony pulled all of the clean versions after complaints from some directors (saying they didn't approve this for their movies) and actors.

I never saw anything wrong with the "clean" version of the films being included as an extra in Vudu. I mean, I personally am not going to watch the clean version, I will always watch the regular film.

But the clean version might be good for people who want to watch movies as a family and want some of the violence, language toned down.

They had interactive movies on DVD, CD-ROM, and LaserDisc. It's been done before.

You are not thinking logically. You are assuming every movie going forward will end up like this which is absolutely stupid and ridiculous.

Calm down, breathe, and go outside.

Dang, I am still at work. Hey, since your outside, bust out Netflix on your phone, or your iPad for a large screen, and check out the new Puss and Boots. I hear it's mind-blowing, no matter which direction you go.

Nah, film ratings are there for a reason. If we are talking the odd swear word or sexual innuendo, kids are exposed to that every day at school, playtime with friends etc.. they can access YouTube or anything else on a mobile, iPod, tablet, laptop, desktop, tv, etc.

I'm going indoors to watch Macbeth (Bluray obviously) in about 15 minutes. Got a pizza in the oven!

True, I am sure kids may hear worse at school/online. But I guess if parents are sitting down to watch a movie as a family, they probably still may not want their kids exposed to that.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter now, since those "clean" versions are gone now.

Depends on the age. Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd maybe 3rd, they don't usually have all of those things. If they do, parental controls are available and should be used, for older as well. I am not sure how many kids in that age group are exposed to the stuff you mentioned above.

Man...I remember as a kid watching a movie with my parents, back before we could really know what was in a movie, and sex scene would come on. Maybe it was just me, but man, that was uncomfortable. I never knew where to look. Definitely not at them, but then....you don't continue to stare at the TV do you? Then mom would say some random comment to break the comfortableness. Ugh....

Isn't the embarrassing sex scene just a part of growing up? I would argue that avoidance makes sex seem dirty and seedy when it's just a natural, enjoyable part of life?

It's natural and an enjoyable part of life, just not with my parents. I would have rather preferred a clean version while watching with them at the time. Everyone is different though.

Getting back to the Original Thread, Disc or Digital. I see more and more Straight to Digital HD, and skipping Disc. Reading up on Distribution, it's up the Studios to decide depending on the Movie or Film. Digital HD is becoming more main stream, and starting to leave Disc behind. Now 4K Disc Combos are in great demand for Recent Releases and Popular Movies.

Can you list those titles that are not getting a DVD or Bluray release? Or is this one of your (IMO) famous bullshit posts?
