So I'm getting my first Blu-Ray player for Christmas (the Panasonic BD55) and everything will be connected via analog cables to older equipment (needed the built-in decoding and 7.1 analog outputs), specifically component video cables to a five-year-old HDTV. Naturally, the TV can only handle 1080i. My question is, will discs mastered in 1080p automatically "down-convert" and play in 1080i without hassle? Or will it screw around and give me a 480p signal just to spite me and my old equipment?
