from you tube to dvd, or vhs to dvd?

A few questions for the techies. I've posted some recent threads about getting my vhs tapes digitized. I've decided to do this with software through the computer. It seems I've come across some things on you tube that I have on vhs aslo. My question is which would be the better quality? I've seen different videos on you tube that I need vary from 240 to 1080p. What I don't know is what will my vhs input be captured at going into the computer? And there's also the condition of the vhs tape itself. 99% of those have only ever been played one time though. So I hope I made my questions understandable as I'm just a novice pretty much. I just want the items that come from vhs to look as good as they can on my HDTV. Thanks again in advance for any help.
