Actually it's not so dead. Universal didn't renew the contracts of the producers (probably cost cutting measures) but they (Universal) still wants to move forward with it. Here's the latest:

I just find what they did with the franchise to be strange.

I absolutely love the first film, it's a classic and it's filled with the awe and magic of the best Spielberg films.

I was really disappointed with Lost World when I first saw it way back in the day. It was on TV the other night and I figured I'd give it another shot. I made it half way through the 3-hour timeslot. It's just a really boring film and has absolutely none of the magic. I love Jeff Goldblum as an actor and he was probably the only good thing about this one. But it has none of the other characters we cared about from the first one. Sam Neil and Laura Dern are gone and then Hammond and the kids are in it for a brief cameo. I just find that so sad and strange when major characters from one film come back for a minute in a sequel and then disappear just as quickly as they came. The kids literally hug Malcolm and then walk away when he starts talking to Hammond's nephew.

However, I actually enjoy Jurassic Park III. Sam Neil's back even though Goldblum unfortunately is not. I just find it a lot more entertaining than the second.

It's just a shame what happened to the franchise. Unless the script is fantastic, Spielberg or Joe Johnston comes back and the characters from the first return it's just not worth it. They should have done something with that shaving cream can of embryos in the second or third film, that's what we all expected when we saw the first one, and they didn't do anything with it in the sequels.

I guess we'll see.

that was the issue the sequels didnt pick up from there (as everyone expected) so the others felt somewhat disjointed.....

Out of 10, maybe.

But yeah. I love dinosaurs, so I would just be watching it for the dinos.

Or maybe Jurassic Park is the prequel to The Birds.

I never really officially heard this was happening anyway.

the first is great, the second has great things (raptors in the long grass is maybe my favorite scene in all 3) but the story is weak and the ending is awful, and the third is all around trash.

The third one was out of place, and I agree was trash.

and then newman would screw it all up by shutting off the power and a t-rex would eat you.

Again i say. As much as i want another JP flick. I just don't see where they can go with a story that makes any sence. But, I'll wait and see if Hollywood can muster up some magic one more time for this long antiscipated franchise. I also wouldn't mind seeing the grandkids in it. See if they can work them into the fold.

they would have to have a large budget and take it onto the mainland. no more islands. think jurassic park meets collateral

the 2nd was the worst but the raptor in the fields scene is probably my #1 favorite scene as well.
