If I remember the actual information that contains Dolby Vision's data isn't particularly large, it's something that can be carried over HDMI 1.4 connections which have a far lower bandwidth than the 2.0 connections. Although UHD BDs require HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2.

After the DV firmware update, I initially felt some regret about taking the LG 970 back.
But watching this DV fiasco play out has been surreal...I wanted LG, but had to buy Sony for a more well-designed player. LG's first black eye came when they suddenly removed 3D from the new 2017 sets and their second black eye came when they released a shoddy and cheap 4K player without promised DV capability. 2017 has been a bad year for LG. 3D fans & 4K fans are turning on them now. |

2018 Player models likely comes out May. June.
Do we also consider the Sony x800 without DV and current Samsung's(Panasonic's) without HDR10+ also EOL? CES 2018 likely will be HUGELY Big on HDR10+ and DV. I gather from JohnAV's post that EOL stands for End of Line. Should my UP970 with its Aug DV FW become EOL it would be no problem for our Family. We will use its DV feature for likely easy 5 years. And then or sooner pass it down to Grand Kids. Unless my UP970 breaks down, makes big noise. For then my UP970 Replacement Plan from BEST Buy lets me get a 2018, 2019, 2021 model. Which is fine for me. No EOL! With UP970 4 yr Replacement Plan receintly as low as $30 many will find this a Happy Marriage Last edited by E6AtmosVuduDV; 12-06-2017 at 09:17 PM. Reason: Edit DV. What picture setting are you guys using? All the blacks look greyish on the "standard" setting on the player on my B7. I have Deep Color enabled and all the extra processing turned off and black level is low. I'm using both the Cinema and technicolor Expert but no difference. When I launch an Amazon HDR show on the TV's app I get inky blacks, but on the UP970 player its grey.
Look below, this is the very beginning of Alien Covenant at the title card. Now I'm guessing all of the space scenes should be very black and almost blending with the bars,as you can see its very grey,as if it was on Vivid. If I lower by brightness by one to 49 it gets a bit better but still not looking like it should. The picture makes it a little worse than it is but thats still pretty close to what it looks like. ![]() Last edited by bodine1231; 12-07-2017 at 05:33 AM. |

I am on vacation currently. So don't have access to my settings.
From recall I believe... UP970 out set to 60Hz HDMI Input on TV for UP970 Connect... On TV for that HDMI-in Do set on "Deep Color"(on LG OLED it is harder to find that set on switch). Lastly ycbcr? But someone else needs confirm Heard somewhere RGB crush blacks(?) Last edited by E6AtmosVuduDV; 12-07-2017 at 01:04 AM. |

What happens if you play your Alien C 1080p blu ray versus 4K HDR10?
I have UP970 and E6 OLED. Inky blacks on both with Aliem C. and every other movie disc. Be it 1080p, HDR10. DV. As well as on UP970 Netflix App. Your TV Netflix has its own ISF Settings. The TV HDMI for the B7 has its own ISF Settings for UP970. At that HDMI... Try different Gamma settings. Try different Dynamic Contrast settings. What is current OLED light setting at that HDMI. My Energy Saving is set to off. IF still no big improvement then- Do you have a friend with UP970 at his house thats working fine? If so have him bring his up970 over. Or take yours to his house. And Try. What Firmware version you have fir UP970? What current HDMI Cable you using for UP970? HDR requires specific type HDMI cable with enough bandwidth and speed to transmit everything from the UHD Movie Disc or and maybe from UP970 Netflix App HDR Movie. At your post #1959... Please add day time "timestamp" if you add more comments. Or updated results. Put that time stamp just above new comment. Please. Of cource you can try RGB at settings. Sent a message to LG on twitter. Now they are saying:
“Thanks for reaching out. We do not currently have any ETA on a firmware update for Dolby Vision. You can watch the Manuals and Downloads link under the Support section on the product page for your model at http://www.lg.com/us for the latest firmware updates.” I’m not even expecting the update personally. I’m going with the attitude of getting an ‘18 model (Sony perhaps) that supports DV out of the box. |

Thanks. If I play the blu ray its a little better. I cannot change the gamma in HDR and the OLED light is at 100 for HDR. The FBI screens and loading screens are all ink black, its only when the movie is playing where I get the blown out blacks. I've tried both Low and Off for Dynamic Contrast with not much change. If I drop my brightness from 50 to 48 its much better. Here's a picture with brightness on TV set to 48,looks like it should. Again,on the FBI screens it looks like ink,on the movie not so much. (not just this movie either). ![]() Last edited by bodine1231; 12-07-2017 at 02:46 PM. |

ISF Expert, ISF Dark B7 have GAMMA not grey'd out. Try different gamma's there. As you vary Dynamic Contrast in the settings.
Be sure to note, write down your original settings. When you say HDR... are you refering to the HDR PRE-SETs selection? For I never use that in any of my 4K UHD Movies. I use ISF Movie Bright, I use ISF Movie Dark. I have used ISF Sport. But after Forums reading at Sony A1e... huge long list by Sony to prevent OLED screen burn ins, actually could be uncomfortably common, I now use ISF APS(user settings) auto power saving. Adusting color, brightness, dyn contrast, oled light etc till looks wonderful on my E6 OLED. I thought LG by Press said ISF HDR Preset needs Firm Ware fix for Gamers. Its work in progress. Nothing looks right for me when I use HDR Presets Last edited by E6AtmosVuduDV; 12-07-2017 at 04:08 PM. |

I do not use HDR Picture mode. Too many crazy results by my eyes.
Favorite for me now is APS auto power saving with personal value settings. Try OLED light in 70's. In 80's. With different color level, dyn contrast, gamma, bright to see if greys go away, inky'r blacks. Especially with punch up in color. Rtings.com states OLED light in high ranges causes Burn-In quickest in OLEDs. However, Dyn Contrast, or Contrast higher ranges much less Burn-in effects. Could be high OLED Light also reduce inky blacks? I have lots success using other preSets nonHDR and changing their nonGreyed out with Gamma! For best blacks Again. Im a 2016 E6 owner. 2017 B7 preSets are designed someWhat different. Within your HDR Pic Mode you have lots selections. I believe I have only 3 something akin to low, med, high(Im not home to confirm) Or rather- I copy some of HDR value settings and reproduce in the APS I believe. Or APS to HDR. Or kept Original with small moderate changes. Again can't check or see my old notes, Im on vacation. Last edited by E6AtmosVuduDV; 12-07-2017 at 10:54 PM. Reason: Finishing |
