Natalie Dormer Leads the Way in Picnic at Hanging Rock Trailer
By Sarah Musnicky - April 11, 2018

Amazon has released the premiere date and trailer for Picnic at Hanging Rock series

On Friday, May 25, Amazon will premiere all six episodes of original mystery drama series Picnic at Hanging Rock, starring Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2), on Prime Video in the US. Based on Joan Lindsay’s iconic Australian novel of the same name, Picnic at Hanging Rock is a limited series surrounding the mysterious disappearances of three schoolgirls and one teacher on Valentine’s Day in 1900. The series revolves around the subsequent investigation and the event’s far-reaching impact on the students, families and staff at Appleyard College, and on the nearby township. The series has already received critical acclaim following its recent premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival and has been selected for the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival this month.

Natalie Dormer stars as Mrs. Hester Appleyard, the enigmatic headmistress of Appleyard College, a boarding school that she established for young ladies isolated in Australian bushland. Starring alongside Dormer as the three students who mysteriously vanish include Samara Weaving (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, The Babysitter) as Irma Leopold, a Rothschild heiress; Madeleine Madden (Tomorrow When The War Began, High Life) as Marion Quade, daughter of a high court Justice; and Lily Sullivan (Camp, Jungle) as Miranda Reid, the rebellious tomboy who grew up with four brothers on a cattle station. These girls have a strong bond and together resist the edicts of society. Other cast members include Lola Bessis (Swim Little Fish Swim), Yael Stone (Orange Is the New Black), Anna McGahan (Underbelly), Sibylla Budd (The Secret Life of Us), Ruby Rees (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries), and Inez Curro (Little Heart).

Picnic at Hanging Rock is a FremantleMedia Australia production for Foxtel in Australia, co-produced with Amazon Prime Video for the US. Jo Porter (Wentworth) and Anthony Ellis (Wentworth) executive produce with Foxtel’s Penny Win (Secret City). The script producer and establishing writer is Beatrix Christian (White Collar Blue) with writer Alice Addison (The Principal). The producers are Jo Porter and Brett Popplewell (Camp) with creative consultant Larysa Kondracki (Better Call Saul) directing along with Michael Rymer (Battlestar Galactica) and Amanda Brotchie (Girlboss). Picnic at Hanging Rock was made with key production investment from Screen Australia. The series was shot in Victoria, Australia, with the significant assistance of the Victorian Government through Film Victoria. FremantleMedia International is distributing the series worldwide.
