Keep in mind that WB had given Supergirl to the Salkinds as a result of the Superman 3 debacle - having been unable to secure Christopher Reeve for a Supergirl cameo that he had no desire to perform pretty much slammed the door for WB - and they kept ownership until the implosion of their production company, whereupon the assets were bought up by various parties and Studio Canal picked up pretty much everything they had rights to. Since it hasn't been released on Blu-Ray thus far and people have been asking for it, we can conclude with good certainty that WB did not obtain rights to the film from SC apart from licensing it for a DVD release under their banner to tie in with Superman Returns. On the other hand, given the current trend of female empowerment in Hollywood and the fact that WB is moving forward with Harley Quinn and Birds Of Prey, I think it's very possible that WAC or just plain ole WBHE may yet poop out a surprise release of the film in the near future, possibly to tie in with the release of the Supergirl TV show's current season on home video. It's also possible that a UHD-BD set of restored Superman 1-4 and Supergirl will arrive in the near future, but I'm just being a bit too hopeful with that notion.
