As Richard Roeper said, rather dismissively, about Nicholson's performance compared to Ledger's: "It [Nicholson's performance] was a clown performance." Ledger did in fact blow Nicholson's performance out of the water. You have to have either a lot of bias or a lot of nostalgia to side with Nicholson's performance when comparing the two.
