You mean the construction site picture, or something else?

The construction thing is not a clue for real, it's just the image they're using while their website is "under construction." We're just goofing around pretending it's a clue.

That 3 is perhaps too generous. It is, to use a word that he used but didn't quite want to attach to the film - a "snooze fest."

Objectively speaking, he's spot on giving it a cautious recommendation. It is some kind of acquired taste.

I'm already plotting out my lists for July and the next Flash sale.

I am, and for good reason.

I'll be away for most of July on holiday, so the window of opportunity for this sale is very slim for me.

And making that window smaller is the addition of currency exchange, as well as the "need" for GST on online shopping, courtesy of the Aussie Government.

But I'll get through. Just watch.

I saw Naked Lunch back in 1991 in a theater when it first came out and it was, needless to say, a very intense experience. Got the Criterion blu-ray on sale a month or so ago and watched it today for the first time since that original encounter. Heavy duty stuff. Very good PQ. This movie is very disturbing, but I'd say it's a "smart" horror movie. One of Cronenberg's best imho.

There's are central and upsetting things in this film that parallel in some ways the real life of Willam S. Burroughs. My guess is that knowing a little bit of the grim and tragic "reality" behind this surreal story will make it seem more poignant.

Powerful performances by Peter Weller and Judy Davis in this film.

I also really like eXistenZ, which I hope makes it to Criterion someday....

One of the other Criterion movies I got during the sale a month ago was Peter Weir's Picnic at Hanging Rock. I first saw this one at a revival theater a few years after it came out, about 1980, and it blew me away. Beautiful restoration for this film, which looks much better now than when I saw it at the theater at that time in a somewhat scratched and dusty print. The music for Picnic at Hanging Rock by Bruce Smeaton is beautiful and rather haunting in places....

Peter Weir is one of my favorite film directors of all time. Some of his best films are still not out on blu-ray, and I hope that they might be released on Criterion in the future, including....

The Last Wave (1977)
The Year of Living Dangerously (1982)
The Mosquito Coast (1986)

My favorite of all of these is The Year of Living Dangerously....Good trailer, although imho it has spoilers.

We really need a good release of Gallipoli too.

I viewed the film last summer and felt it was bit flat in parts. I was hoping we'd get Night on Earth or Stranger than Paradise before Dead Man.

3 seems like a fair grade, inasmuch as some people will give it a soft 1 and some people will give it a hard 5.

Ditto all this.

And that the Shout disc comes with Easy Money too boot? Great deal. Full night of laughs.

When I first glanced at this I read that as "Naked Gun". I was like, what the hell is (s)he talking about!?

Whit Stillman tweeted about 20th anniversary screenings of THE LAST DAYS OF DISCO. Another blu? I doubt it. But BIG SCREEN!

I saw Best Buy had Last Tango in Paris, would getting a new 4K resto and criterion releasing it be possible?

Since Criterion has been re-releasing many of the MGM classics of that period (The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy, Straw Dogs), I would be very surprised if this did not happen.
