Thanks, that would probably work out better for me. Not having to worry about return deadlines and being able to just drop the disc back into the mail are very convenient. That's a whole lot easier for a rural resident like myself; driving into town is slightly more of a chore here.

I wonder if Netflix will start to offer 4K disc rentals like Redbox has started? I also wonder how well those would survive the mail system?

The only time I notice an issue is when I'm experiencing a problem at the source or through my internet provider. So stop telling people they need to be hard lined in to get the best out of their equipment. Because that's not necessarily true and is based more on apps/equipment than the internet.
I know people love their Wireless connections, but you can't beat a Wired connection. As you guys know I Retired from AT&T and also did Contracting in the Silicon Valley and San Francisco. I set up Networks, and they were all Wired for consistensy and maximum Bandwidth. Here is a Link that talks about Wired vs Wireless:

https://www.howtogeek.com/217463/wi-...ed-connection/

Wireless has gotten better, but the Bandwidth Vilya talks about is under ideal conditions. You need a good signal, put in walls, distance, and interference and it goes downhill fast.

I graduated high school before I was 16, studied information technology before I decided I made more money off my designs and working for myself and have licenses to make products for the companies you are talking about. Do I win a prize?

Wired is only useful for gaming and that’s typically PC gaming. Please stop.

Groot is right, just quit while you're behind.

Anyone with a home wireless network can test the speeds they are getting. Even without doing any testing, it isn't very difficult to determine if your wireless connection degrades over distance or is affected by interference.

With 802.11ac providing wireless connection speeds of 866.7 Mbps and 802.11n providing wireless speeds of 150 Mbps, you have many times over what you need to stream a 4K video whose bitates average just 25 Mbps at best.

Even if those wireless speeds degraded by a ridiculous 50%, you would still have many times what you need to stream a 4k video. They could degrade by an unheard of 75% and you would still have enough speed.

The archaic 802.11g provides speeds of 54 mbps; even it can handle a 4k stream. Your posts stating that a wireless network can't provide reliable video streaming is wrong with a capital WRONG.

Those of us who have had a wireless home network for years, and we are legion, would not still have such a network if it did not work. We can determine for ourselves if our wireless network is meeting our needs.

It is time for you to go off on another tangent already. No one believes you on this subject. Every time you flaunt your dubious AT&T past, it helps reinforce why I never had any confidence in AT&T when they were my ISP. It makes me wonder whose idea it was when you retired, yours or theirs?

I finally watched Inferno 1953 in 3D and I was really surprised at how well such a vintage 3D movie performed. The depth and spatial detail was very good with only a couple of gimmick shots during the course of the movie.

Not only was this filmed in 3D with a gigantically cumbersome stereoscopic camera, it was filmed on location in the rugged terrain of the Mojave desert. The disc includes a 15 minute mini documentary on how the film was made. Making this film was no easy accomplishment.

During the opening credits with the text imposed in front of the opening scenes, there is some noise to contend with, but things settle down afterwards. There are also a few scenes where the film grain intensifies and it moves in a somewhat odd fashion. In one scene, it looks like there is some kind of sparkling glitter amongst the grain, but such distractions are really few in number.

At the core, there is really a good movie here, too; it is not just a vehicle for 3D spectacle. The disc gives you the option of watching it in either 2D or 3D. I am well pleased with this addition to my library. Behind these spoiler tags is an image of a poster for the movie.

I've been a customer of both services for almost 10 years? Like I said, there are some things that are only on DVD or drop on the streaming before the BD. Which is why I kind of bounce between the two. I'm about the pack up my AVR and gaming consoles and go down to strictly streaming until I pack up the tv's in the trailer. Although nothing of substance, probably just old Match Game 73's on YouTube.

Good luck! Moving is a lot of hard work. Stay safe, too; it is easy to get injured lugging heavy stuff around. I get tired just thinking about all the work you are doing.

Thanks. Despite my age and weight I'm in still relatively good shape. Right not it is going to be the totes and furniture that is going to give me some aches and pains. Hoping to knock out my collectibles tomorrow and then get going on my son's stuff the next day. My wife is getting the rest of the stuff squared away. Have to clear up a few things with a neighbor who is going to help me fix a car we've decided to take and my getting my MiL stuff and her here.

Thanks for that. I’m very close to pulling the trigger on this.

I don’t mind the imperfections you mentioned as I see it as necessary to get these vintage 3D titles out there and if it’s the 3D Archive, I’m confident that the 3D will be excellent and in the main, the transfer will be of a high standard. As I understand it, the costs would be too high to erase every bit of debris and nasties etc..

Haven't had any issues with my One, but the wifi on the 360 my son is using seems to constantly go in and out on him. This is something that boggles the mind a bit with some of these devices. I know cost is a factor, but I've heard the wifi components are on the weak side(?).

To be honest, it’s more subtle. For example, something like Call Of Duty seems ever so slightly faster and smoother wired. It’s not like it’s two different experiences, it’s just wired is sometimes the difference between getting that quick shot away or being killed. I can’t speak for Xbox as I am a PlayStation guy.

A wired connection does offer better ping and better latency, which are important for gaming. The differences in these values are not huge, though, over a wireless 5 Ghz connection. 2.4 Ghz fares worse.

The charts in the following links show these comparisons.

For average ping:

https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/3e...Fub-650-80.png

Average latency with no congestion:

https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Sb...56i-650-80.png

Average latency with congestion:

https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/to...kCn-650-80.png

Latency spike with no congestion:

https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/2p...bD9-650-80.png

Latency spike with congestion:

https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/pj...UtC-650-80.png

"Congestion" was defined as: "Adding the congestion of multiple simultaneous video streams accentuated the differences even further."

The differences between wired and wireless over a 5 Ghz connection are there, but they are rather small.

Yeah, it’s very very subtle. Only noticeable after years of knowing how COD plays. Like I said, either way it’s still a fine experience but I prefer wired.

The quality of the wireless adaptor used by each console varies and that impacts the experience also.

I'm almost exclusively a pc gamer and my desktop is hard wired. My consoles, all of which are old, connect wirelessly (except for my first generation Xbox 360- it has no wireless adaptor) but I very rarely play games on them. The console games I play do not require an internet connection.

That old Xbox 360 mainly serves as my HD-DVD player and even then I rarely power it on as I only have 5 HD-DVD titles remaining in my collection.

I have fluctuated between PC and consoles for years now. Still got my Steam account but last two generations I have bought PS.

I have a Steam account, too, with 169 games- 75% of them gifted to me by my software engineer friend.

My Steam name is a rather questionable parody on Bilbo and Frodo's lineage. I am their distant cousin, and kept at a distance,

This is my history of gaming

(The order may be wonky like my memory)

Grandstand (pong and soccer with target shooting bonus)
Atari 2600
Sinclair Spectrum
Amstrad
Atari St
Amiga
Sega Master system
Mega drive
SNES
PlayStation
PS2
PS3
PS4
PSVR (hooray!)
Switch

And tangled in with that, regular desktop PC.

Regret that I never bought a Commodore 64.
