I've had my eye on the DVD version of this set for the better part of a year. Almost bought it last November too when it was around $50. Glad I held off!

Ridiculous. Having not owned the previous DVD full sets, I wasn’t aware that’s how they do this. Guess I’ll skip it after all, and just hold out for individual releases.

If this 1. Came with digital copies for every film and 2. Did away with the multiples then maybe I would sell the individual sets I already own and double dip for this. But as it stands, I’ll just get the Black Lagoon and Invisible Man sets coming out on the same day, slide in my Phantom Of The Opera blu ray from Kino and call it a day. Maybe get some fancy gothic bookends for the whole set

The "hold outs" are always hilarious.

I love the guys who are "glad they waited".

I’ve had the UK Essentials Collection Blu-ray since 2012, and it’s suiting me fine. I just have no desire to own many multiples of the second tier films; it’s a waste of space.

If this is a repackage, they will have to create a new legacy release of Phantom.

What I've always dreamt of was a huge Universal Box Set not only featuring the usual famous monsters, but also including CAPTIVE WILD WOMAN (and its sequels), MAN MADE MONSTER, THE BLACK CAT, THE RAVEN, THE INVISIBLE RAY, BLACK FRIDAY, etc, etc. In short, nearly or as close to everything.

Hey, whatever works. As someone who has NEVER held out (Legacy DVD sets, Complete DVD Collection, the Essential BD Collection, Legacy BD sets so far), I doubt my own common sense...though I have enjoyed them all.

I already have Dracula, Frankenstein and The Mummy on blu ray with the Wolfman on DVD. Going to go with the individual sets for Creature and Invisible Man.

I assume you realize that owning them individually will most likely require more space, as well as increase the overall cost to own.

If I hold out to buy everything, yes. If I cherry pick, then no. There are also multiple films per disc on the existing Legacy sets already. It shouldn’t be any different for standalone repacks.

Yeah holding out on a complete set totally means they avoided watching the movies for 5 years.

Sometimes people like you are hilarious.

The legacy sets are only a few millimeters wider than a standard case, so I suppose if you only buy one sequel (double movie) set per monster, that also happens to have the combo you desire, then you will be good to go.

However, another option is to just buy the full set, give away/trash the duplicates and just combine the movies you want into the fewest of the multi-disk cases provided. This is probably the cheapest way to go, ensuring you get the movies of interest, as well as saving the most space with no additional cost.

Based on the DVDs, the two film repacks were not a cost saver.

I have all the previous Legacy Collections. I will be waiting for pics and info on this mega-set.

If it's just the previous sets bundled together in a box, I'll probably just get the upcoming Invisible Man and Creature sets, and a Phantom single. If they include bonus discs or booklets, or drop some of the redundant discs and tighten up the packaging, I will look into selling off what I already have, and getting the big set. We'll see.

It will most likely follow the pattern of the past mega disk release and be the individual releases bundled in a box with a booklet being the only additional feature. Using the existing individual release, with duplicate disk, is the most cost effective approach for Universal.

I own the DVD Legacy sets, so this is more of an upgrade for me. I was tempted to just get the Alex Ross steelbooks and call it a day, because I really only rewatch those specific films. I'd be fine with a DVD rewatch of the rest, should I feel inclined. But I just didn't have the money and now Bride is hard to find.

I'll probably just get this set because my Frankenstein DVDs are going and Son of Frankenstein does not play back properly anymore. So, it'll be nice to have everything (multiple copies even) in HD.

Many people, like myself, aren't die-hard classic monster fans that urgently need all the films. In my case, I enjoy the films and always intended to buy the legacy sets but just haven't gotten around to it because they aren't a priority and I haven't even gotten through my Essential Collection box set yet. I'm happy this big set was announced before I started collecting the legacy sets. And as someone pointed out, not owning them doesn't mean not watching them. And there are many other films to keep me occupied.

I got the 2014 box set even though I really didn’t need it at the time (had the older Legacy sets). Frankly it’s been a good go to set these last few years even with the duplicates. That said I am glad a BD equivalent is finally coming out, duplicates and all.

I believe the backlash is mostly related to posts that originally came about when the first of legacy blu-ray sets were released. Even with the relative cheap price there were those that reportedly refused to buy because of duplicates being included. They wanted to wait for a complete collection knowing that Universal couldn't possibly include duplicates within a complete collection. Many of us predicted at that time that a complete collection would most likely just be a repackage of the individual legacy monster sets, duplicates and all, and while not yet proven one way or another, it looks like a strong possibility.

The older Legacy sets do not contain the latest 4K restorations. They are HD masters circa 2000.
