Another entertaining game and a lovely second goal by Cavani. Despite Portugal battling away right up to the last minute, Uruguay did the business.

Uruguay were superb tonight, not in the sense of being swashbuckling attackers but they were so well organised, so committed, and in Cavani and Suarez they have such potent outlets for their team, one did the scoring tonight (dat second goal, oh mai) but they both put in a shift, and Suarez was like a machine the way he just kept on going and going and going.

And that was the best refereeing performance by some distance as well, it wasn't perfect but you see what happens when you start to ignore the players throwing themselves to the floor? The silly tarts spring back up immediately and just get on with it. Brilliant!

Might explain why Ronaldo had a face like a wet weekend throughout much of the game - he realised this referee wasn't having any theatrics.

He still got his bit of the limelight though by helping Cavani off like he did.

Gotta put a shout out for the ball too, that bloody Jubilani from 2010 was like a beachball and the 2014 one wasn't that much better but this Telstar tribute is excellent, good amount of weight and when it gets hit it ****ing stays hit!

I'm going to go with a Spanish win against Russia, and for Denmark to beat Croatia this evening. Having said that, I imagine they are both going to be tough games today.

I stuck £100 on Spain and done a tenner on Eriksen to score and Denmark to win although I think Croatia may win that one but good odds on that bet.

Yep, I can't look past Spain in that game but the other one is tougher for me to call, I fancy Croatia for it.

Haha,cheers,only gets me £62 back but I’m confident,I’m well up in this World Cup anyway even if I lose this bet.I had £110 on Germany to beat Sweden at even money,bit close for comfort but some ya win,some ya lose.

As a sleeping aid, that was terrific. As a football game, not so much. More of the same in extra time methinks, I expect Spain to break down the wilting Russians eventually.
