Release Date: August 28th 2018
Quote:
One of the more infamous releases over the decades in anime is that of the OVA series Angel Cop. It was originally released by Manga Entertainment back in the day with what’s labeled as an “utterly ridiculous and foul-mouthed” dub that’s been quoted heavily over the years and it’s also filled with a lot of violence. Geneon Entertainment did a simple DVD release ages ago as well and we know a proper native HD release won’t be produced in Japan as the materials simply aren’t there.
Discotek Media is planning to bring it out as an upscaled Blu-ray later this year that will have it with uncensored subtitles for the first time, the dub, and a new essay on the historical context of the work and other bonus material including an interview with the dub writer. Justin Sevakis, who is doing the work on the encoding, had this to say on it:
"Also, Angel Cop is an upscale, but really cleaned up nicely. Far more detail than has ever been visible. Better than DVD quality, a little blurry for BD. It didn’t look like a new HD transfer was ever going to happen."
