That and LOTR was such a perfect trilogy that nothing could live up to them. The Hobbits have many issues, but I still love them for what they are. Peter Jackson indulging his whims is still totally entertaining to me even while I roll my eyes or wince at some of them.

LOTR trilogy >>> The Hobbit trilogy, don't get me wrong The Hobbit trilogy's great but not even close to LOTR's awesomeness.

They should have delayed release 12 months when del Toro left. WB would have easily made up for it at the box office if the Hobbit movies were received as well as LOTR.

When I read about the chaos behind-the-scenes of the Hobbit films, it makes me feel very sorry for Peter Jackson. Frankly, it’s amazing he managed to make the films coherent, let alone with some inspired passages given what he had to work with.

Yeah I think the Hobbit trilogy is an astonishing achievement considering the time crunching pressure PJ and co were under. I mean sequences that they managed to throw together at the last minute such as the Smaug battle in the finale of Desolation are just fantastic. No wonder everything was CG in these movies as the production was so fluid they had to create everything at the last minute pretty much.

I for one think the visual FX in this trilogy are really stunning considering the sheer volume of them and short amount of time they were created in.

I think these are excellent movies and whilst they don't match the LOTR trilogy, they are still great entertainment.

Is the 3D transfer the same across regions? I can't seem to find the US releases for a reasonable price but I can find the region free releases for a decent price.

I think that the hobbit films are really underated, yes they are flawed but I think that a lot of it is quite good. I think the problems are really exagerated by most people. I think these are the only problems.

An Unexpected Journey
1. Kili is supposed to have a beard
2. The goblin town scene is too CGI heavy

Desolation of Smaug
1. Probably the fastest paced film in history
2. The love triangle is an unnecessary addition
3. A fully CG Legolas was just so unnecessary
4. Kili is supposed to have a beard
5. Why does there have to be a animal testical eating scene
6. To much Tauriel

The Battle of 5 Armies
I have not watched the extended edition but I have seen clips of it and it is like the executives just told them “remake monty python and the holy grail but color the blood black and sprinkle in some tom and jerry”
Legolas mario jumping
It skips the return journey

Legolas Mario jumping is legit

If you watch FELLOWSHIP yoy will see Legolas walk on the top surface of the ice - not fighting through it

Reading through the comments here, I wanted to echo what others are saying.... The Hobbit Trilogy EE on 3D blu-ray is captivating, immersive and an absolute delight. I saw the original theatrical releases in 2D and was a little underwhelmed, but still enjoyed them. I rarely re-watched them until I upgraded to a budget projector capable of 3D. For reference, I have a 100 inch screen (wish it was bigger for this style of cinematography). Although, these movies are imperfect, they're still just stunning to watch. Epics like these are what makes 3D fans pray for the format to live on.
