Regal Countryside, Ballston, and Manassas play Hindi movies. 'DC Cinemas' in Falls Church has two screens showing Telugu, Tamil & Hindi films.

Yeah, being part Hispanic (oh who am I kidding, I failed Spanish in High School) DC really has no venue for showing Hispanic movies, only in the Fall when the AFI Silver showcases Central and South American movies.

Gold apparently has a budget of about Rs 100 crores (USD $14 million). Sanjay Leela Bhanshali's Padmaavat (IMAX 3D, no AR shifts) had a budget of Rs 215 crore (USD 33 million).

I don't think IMAX charges Indian studios the same amount for DMR that they charge Hollywood productions. It should be a country specific thing. This is why Hollywood did wrong by not allowing 3D versions of their movies in India anymore. They should have been more sensitive to our economy.

I was thinking like Korean/China/Japan type made films. Manassas, Centreville, Fairfax Cinemark all play the Hindi films. I know I can used MP at Fairfax Town Center to see the movies but from my experience the terminal used is a concession stand terminal which scares me since I have read reports of people getting banned for using MP at a concession terminal.

Changes in MP pretty much ****ed the chance of me exploring any of those movies with no risk to me.

You know I was planning on using movie pass to see it the other day after I got out late but then I saw it was a Hindi film so there was no chance MP was going to let me use that on that movie.

So I saw Pandas IMAX 3d for 7 dollars at my local LieMax Regal theater.

Only about 10 people or so. Decided to do an experiment... Sit dead center of the theater.
Holy Shit the 3d was amazing. There was a scene where flies/bees were buzzing near the camera and it felt so close to my face that I actually started swatting them with my hands.
Wow Crazy.

Sat in the rear right of the theater where we normally sit as it can get too crowded in the middle center areas during a big release. 3d was weak and the image felt like it had a glassy like effect to it. Sat rear middle and no glassy effect but the 3d wasn't as strong.

Was this filmed in real 3d imax or post converted to 3d?

Pandas was filmed with IMAX cameras (most IMAX original productions are, and it was advertised as such) and according to IMDB in dual strip 15/70 3D.

Yeah, even in cropped digital IMAX I thought the visuals and 3D were terrific, I imagine even more so in full 1.43 laser like it is playing in now.

So when IW comes back to Udvar, sit dead center (If Possible) and then I should see the 3d effects well...or was 3d just generally weak compared to pandas?

I always prefer to sit near the center for 3D, even more so in IMAX where they usually use a curved screen.

I don't think Infinity War's 3D was as strong as Pandas', but it was certainly solid (certainly above the average Hollywood blockbuster post conversion IMO), so if it looked flat, that may have to do with seat you used.

So this week's release of 2001 (which I have never seen completely growing up) in IMAX... does anyone know if this film was shot in a way that it will be presented in Letterbox in digital IMAX theaters or open it at Udvar?

If it opens up at Udvar, I would love to buy tickets for it just to experience it for the first time and enjoying the film for it's "Masterpiece status"

There's no way to open up footage as the entire filmed is contained to the 2.35 original frraming - it will be like every other scope framed movie be letterboxed. And yes it's playing at Udvar

Tomorrow the movie returns for a repeat 70mm week long run at the AFI Silver - that's where you SHOULD see it

Personally I'd pass. I just saw it in 70mm a year or so ago at the Heights in Columbia Heights.

There’s only one 70mm projector in Minnesota and they replaced it with the 2K IMAX system (when the 4K systems started rolling out, unbelievable!). They only roll it out for the Nolan movies. So it’s 2K IMAX DMR or just the 4K disc on my 136” 2.35:1 screen.

I'm going to go see it in my 2K IMAX, while the trailer looks like 2.35:1, I suppose it's possible it will be 2.20:1, as that is what IMDb shows for the original 70mm (standard) release.

So, local IMAX, there was nothing about 2001 "coming soon", so, I wasn't sure it would be playing, it just showed up when they updated their listings yesterday for the coming weekend, The Meg and 2001 have alternating showtimes.

And, there is still nothing about next weekend, no announcement of the MCU festival, so, who knows? The have the early showtimes listed for Aug 30th, no evening times, so, ...maybe?

I just don't get it, if they were gong to show 2001, why was not in the "coming soon"??? If they are going to show the MCU festival, why not tell us now???

interestingly at AMC Tyson's and Udvar Hazy, despite it being a popular summer hit movie 'The Meg' played at both for only a week, followed by 'Alpha' and now '2001'. The Smithsonian keeps a better job on keeping folk on the know on what's 'coming soon' than AMC does.

2001 was immense in IMAX. The film's classic climax was simply mesmerizing in that format. I only wish that my theater had the 70mm showing.

I too went to 2001 last night. I chose the big IMAX theater at the Minnesota Zoo but they presented it in 2K IMAX, not 70mm. Some of the shots looked really outstanding.

It's been a long while since I've seen this movie and I know one thing: I really need to watch that Soderbergh cut of 2001.

Last week my IMAX showed 3 films: Panda & Mile 22 in 2D and Alpha in 3D.
This week every other showtime is either The Meg or 2001.

This, the closest IMAX, is preferred, it is built to IMAX design (for 1.90 digital in 2012), has a 4 stories high screen, nice leather seats, armrests that can go up, it's always calibrated --never had any issues with 3D, (one time getting there early, had to wait to go in while they were calibrating) and clean.

In the other direction, further away is another IMAX, but, it's a bit smaller, not built to IMAX design. It's cheap for IMAX, ($9.45 2D/+$2 3D matinee, +$3 after 4pm), but, not as good, especially the screen.

That IMAX is playing 2001 for all showings. This IMAX did have it as a coming soon, I think with advance ticketing.

But, neither one is announcing MCU festival, so IDK if they will be showing it or not.

So, every IMAX is different.

I understand most cinemas don't know what they are going to put where until middle of the week, but, while many of you can buy advance tickets for MCU festival in IMAX, I won't know if it will be showing at all until next Wed
