What was said in one interview with John K was there were a lot of stories that could be told...which leads me to believe they may examine other characters in other locales.

Since we are mentioning flaws or "things" that took us out of the film's world....

[Show spoiler]mine was seeing the healthy crop of corn over a year after the invasion. I don't see the survivors being able to harvest the previous crop, till the field, plant seed to get to where the corn seems to be in the late summer phase of the growth process..obviously too green to harvest (which would be the second harvest after the invasion).
