I forget where I read it, but if I recall correctly the only reason True Stories was released as a Talking Heads soundtrack/album is due to studio pressure. Byrne originally just wanted to release a cast recording so I'm thinking it will have virtually none of the Heads material that has already been released. It may have been too complicated due to rights issues anyway. Frantz, Weymouth and Harrison are in none of the extras after all.

Also, did anyone else immediately think of the poster for Platform when they saw the True Stories artwork?

Excited about the Bergman box and Welles...so Some like it hot, a classic selected for La Biennale di Venezia has been announced , Visconti's Death in Venice is also at the festival restored with CC collaboration and i hope it will be released in December...
What do you think about a release of the Damned?
Maybe is one of the acquisition from WB which no one know nothing about...any thoughts about that?
There is also the 2013 restoration from Cineteca di Bologna...

The Japanese Region A release is very nice and comes with a beautiful slipcover. I don't know if it is the same transfer as the Region B. It looks to be OOP now with prices to match (I bought it from Amazon.com in 2015 for just under $40). If you are interested, here is the Amazon product link:

Oh, I missed that!

I guess it's just Journey into Fear that's missing.

Criterion should release The Trial instead of putting so much effort on films that already have a region A release.

It's the new miniseries, not the 1975 film.

The Bergman box alone probably makes this the greatest month ever. With Some Like It Hot and The Magnificent Ambersons added on top...damn. Until now, I probably would've said November 2011:

Just....holy sh*t. So much concentrated greatness. Find me a month that would knock that down to 3rd.

Ok Scottie why

Why edit practically all the titles out over the first posts way way back on the first page yesterday.

The whole idea is having all the titles listed at the start of the thread as a go to reference. What can I say. Maybe shocked is a little over reactionary.

Now that I think about it, they're probably holding out on a release of Bergman's trilogy to increase sales of Ingmar Bergman's Cinema. Right now, those films, along with The Magic Flute and Shame, are exclusive to that box set. I get it, but argh, I've been waiting on a BD upgrade of those films for four years now. Who knows how much longer it'll be, but hopefully not more than a year. Especially since the discs will already be pressed. They'll make for easy slots in monthly slates if scheduling is getting tight and they have to focus on, say, three or four titles instead of the usual five. That brings me to a question, however. Does this mean that all of the new extras and booklet content (essays) are complete for those five Bergman titles, or will that stuff be created later and those who buy the big box set miss out on having a complete, definitive collection? Or perhaps they're simply repurposing old extras and essays for those. I think they did that with The Virgin Spring and Scenes from a Marriage.

Default Mulholand Drive

So my copy of Mulholland Drive came today and I saw the the film. All I have to say is this after watching it:

Between the creepy she-hobo at the beginning (and towards the end of the film), the cowboy and the ending overall, I was left gobsmacked. Words fail me......I have no idea to describe what I saw. It was so surreal. I loved the movie and I enjoyed Naomi Watts and Laura Elena Harring performances (loved their erotic scene together, and I'm neither a woman and nor do have I interest in the opposite sex) but the last bit of the movie is "WTF, where the hell did that come from?!".

I'm going to have to re-watch it. Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me is still my favorite David Lynch film but this one comes a close second.

I had a similar reaction the first time I saw it.

"I really enjoyed this, but....what the hell did I just watch?"

I love movies that really make you think, not only while you're watching it, but long after the credits have rolled. I think my mind was chewing on Mulholland Drive for a good week after first seeing it. Scenes would just randomly pop into my head, and I knew that my mind was trying to sort it all out.

Believe me when I say that it gets even better with repeated viewings.

Does anyone remember when the last Criterion Flash sale was? I missed a few things I wanted to pick up during the B&N sale. Wondering how long it will be until Criterion does another.

Early October is usually when the flash sale happens.
