It all seems pretty good natured, in fairness. Also its probably good to put some facts out there with the new release coming out... hell, some of them might even make it into reviews and youtube videos rather than the usual misinformation.

Dean Candy has revised this film so many times, that I have no idea how this film is ‘supposed’ to look.

I’m just glad to see what I’m seeing from the 4K shots so far. Looks like it’ll be a wonderful disc.

Right. So unless people literally have an original unfaded print cued up on a projector then we're gonna have no idea how it was "originally made". The look on home video has changed from one version to the next to the next to the next to the next, so although I have my own preferences for what I'd like to see just gimme Halloween in 4K with the mono audio and without DNR'ing the shit out of it and I'm fine with that.

From what i read a few posts back, Dean Candy has only actually worked on the 35th anniversary edition with Carpenter where as Candy just approved the 1999 version. I think that's right.

Why would they put the 35th Anniversary art on the 2007 disc? I have both so, it doesn't really matter to me which they included for the BD. I just wish they would have used the original poster art for the 4K UHD. What makes me laugh about the debate over color timing is that I have lived in northern Illinois my whole life, and not once did I (or anybody else I know) ever question wether or not this actually took place in Illinois. My childhood friend had a small chain of family owned video stores, which allowed us to see a shitload of old Horror movies on VHS. I can't remember what Halloween looked like back on that format, but I guarantee the 2007 blu ray, the 2013 blu ray, and now the 4K UHD would be a huge improvement.

The top image is the only image you can clearly see Myers' face.

I just like the look of that the best.

Still can't wait for the 4k!

I don't like how all of the trees are pure green in the day time outdoor shots of the 35th (and apparently also the 4K). It just doesn't feel very "Halloween" time to me when there's no yellow, orange, brown leaves on the trees & I feel it really adds to the atmosphere. Even then, the night scenes on the THX were better also. The 35th was stripped of some of the blue. Like I said, a nice mix between them would have been amazing.

Top = 35th, Middle = 2007, Bottom = fan "restoration" to "match" the THX DVD. I want the bottom, but with the detail of the top. The fall colors look outstanding, but the clouds are completely washed out.

I don't know why everyone prefers the bottom image. The highlights are blown the hell out, you can't even see the phone lines or clouds in the sky. It looks terrible. First one is far and away the best colour.

And that's why I don't worry too much about these things. The original materials fade/go missing, directors and DPs forget and change their minds as the years go by, eventually they die and don't have any say one way or the other, etc.

Whether it's a restoration team making an educated guess, the director/DP overseeing it and intentionally shooting for how they want it to look now vs. then -- whatever, I just roll with it as long as it's in the general ballpark of "acceptable" (to me).

Precisely what I was trying to say, in so many other words; as usual, though -- and as I predicted (and spoke about here) -- the discussion has degraded into a "LMAO" commenting corner by cruel-intentioned members who can't reply in any other manner but to laugh at others they disagree with or think are "wrong." It's the same kind of people I see on YouTube who go into someone's channel and make nasty, sarcastic and sometimes caustic comments about their setup "sucking" and their taste "being up their asses." It's ridiculous and cruel.

For the record, I WASN'T spreading misinformation and incorrect details about the various versions of Halloween, as someone in this thread quasi-accused me of doing. The THX DVD is the version MANY of us ingested on a season in, season out basis and became familiar with -- and it looks the most accurate to our eyes with regard to how Illinois would look in the fall. If the other transfers are 100-percent more accurate to Cundy's vision, Carpenter's direction and Hill's production protocols, so be it -- they don't look like the Halloween I grew up with (again, can't speak of the 35th anniversary).

That's all I am going to say about this, and I'm unsubscribing from the thread before more cruel and sarcastic banter gets thrown around by the "bullies" of the forum -- people who have already contributed to me losing a bit of my happiness and joy that's normally associated with this time of year and watching this slasher classic.

Ridiculous that discussing some folks' favorite horror film turns into a pissing contest amongst techno-philes that just want to prove themselves right regarding intent of a color timing.

As it stands, I don't have a UHD disc player yet, so I'm not going to argue any merits or negavtives regarding the new disc's transfer (at least any time soon); maybe I'll check back in if I ever buy the UHD disc.

It's THIS kind of nonsense that makes forums like this one so unappealing to contribute to.

May be considered blasphemy to many, but I turn my TV to it's warmest color setting and then turn the color up on the 35th anniversary. It helps a bit in getting a more "fall" look if that's what you like.

Same here. I mean, I've still some aspects of video presentation that are super important to me but they're pretty standard things, like no messing with the intended aspect ratio, no egregious DNR and so on, stuff that any sane person would also like to see maintained. But when it comes to the grading then unless it's a Friedkin pastel nightmare or has been black crushed to balls then usually I can live with it.

Right on!! Who gives half a s**t about Filmmakers original intent! If any film I watch has questionable colors, I just hit the sliders on my TV settings. Of course, TV's are so awesome now I can make any film look how I want.

I like setting my TV to the coldest color temps possible and turning the color up to 100, so I say live and let live.

You would think September 25th would be plenty early enough for those jones-ing to watch this movie in 4K but my thirst has been strong this year.

Not sure how much longer I can hold out with the new film getting such phenomenal buzz and that gorgeous 15-disc box from Shout taunting me from across the room with its jack-o-lantern grin.

MUST. RESIST. ONE. MORE. WEEK. (insert stressed pumpkin emoji here)

Same here. My boxset is the picture of Micheal facing out from my shelf, but going to wait for the UHD watch that. Then wait for the new Halloween II disc from SF, then a few of the other discs from the boxed set.

It's kind of hilarious that most of us own multiple copies of these movies and yet here we are yet again chomping at the bit for new and improved editions.

I'll also be waiting to watch Halloween II until the new 4K scan from shout comes out in a few weeks. Will it provide a dramatically different experience from the current disc? Probably not but I'm still excited.

And you won't catch me complaining about buying these again and again either. The collector bug makes me love owning various versions with different packaging, artwork, and bonus material.

Just wish we were getting a nice 4K steelbook instead of an FYE exlusive of the same disc we all already own.

the 35th is really the only release where lip service was paid by the creators to trying to recreate the original look though. I don't think anyone is claiming that the other releases (aside from the LD) are "accurate".

While the 35th doesn't have the autumnal colours of the THX, it has a more natural, muted pallet that can fit the season too...As you're not a functioning UHDer yet you should give it a try. Its at least worth a look for the uptick in resolution and detail anyway.
