That is the question, but to be honest, having done a little bit of distribution work, I'm actually not that surprised that this sort of thing happens. Nowadays you're most often dealing with data instead of physical assets, and once a mistake is made, it can be passed down the line of production and on to future releases, simply because no one knows to check on it. If it's been officially approved, it's assumed to be correct.

Even if the mistake is caught, a company has to determine whether fixing it is worth the cost in the long run.

And here is an example of something that WAS fixed*, and then apparently messed up again, probably because of a miscommunication or a mislabeling of assets.


*Even though it was fixed for the box set, it was a bit irksome that AB never corrected the standalone release, even after catching the mistake.

Haha, yeah, the question of why they'd do that is a mystery but it's not the first movie this has happened to and it probably won't be the last. The thing here is though is not so much the 'why' of the fold-down itself because that already existed, is already documented, the creation of it had nothing to do with Lionsgate and was all on Anchor Bay.

The 'why' of nobody at Lionsgate checking that they actually had the proper mono is more pertinent, you'd think that there might be some rudimentary knowledge of the shenanigans that went on with the 35th anniversary Blu-ray. I'll bet cash money right now that the standalone Blu-ray reissue from Lionsgate will also have the downmixed mono, and that might be at the core of the matter: if the rumours are true that they've just repressed the 35th BD, downmix and all (as it was never corrected as a standalone disc, only on the Shout boxset version) then they've assumed that the mono on that BD is the real deal so they just ported it over to the 4K. Goons.

I think you're giving them too much credit either way as there's a much simpler third option, that they were completely ****ing clueless and thought that WAS the original mono. Probably still do, but even if/when they're made aware they're not going to recall all remaining stock and start over due to something that only nerds will obsess over (yes, this is a nerdy format by default but people wanting 4K HDR and original mono are a rarer breed still). At absolute best we'll get a replacement program, though I'm not holding my breath. Cliff, it's over to you...

Yeah, it was easy pickins' with HoHW since they screwed that one up so badly. Would probably take some smooth talking to get anything out of this. I think I'll be happy with the TrueHD core so I'm not making a fuss. Then again, I already got my free copy of Criminal so what more could a guy want!

Oooh, forgot about that. I didn't complain because I don't give a rat's patootie about Atmos but that proves that they do actually have people listening to customer complaints. Anyone got an email address for them? Just had a quick look and there doesn't appear to be anything obvious, just specific email addys for people who'd have nothing to do with the disc and plenty of phone numbers, I ain't gonna be calling from the UK lol

I just popped my Universal Halloween II disc in my PC and scanned it with BDinfo, and for the Halloween II track I got:

So is this the corrected disc? When you say it should have lossless audio, do you mean the 5.1 should be lossless, or do your mean the 2.0 should be also? Because on mine the 5.1 is lossless but the 2.0 isn't.
