It's funnnn. It makes the session go by faster. In my case I get to also look at Hemsworth & Hiddleston...win, win, win.

I also have listened to classical music on portable speakers, sometimes when playing ball. Winnnnning.

Not exactly.

I don't think too many people would argue with the notion that content providers are looking for all sorts of ways to provide content more cheaply and more efficiently. I don't think anybody doubts Netflix or Amazon would love to come up with a codec that allowed them to provide the experience they're providing now while cutting bit rates in half.

They would freaking love that. Who wouldn't?

Yeah, I don't really use my phone for video but it honestly doesn't seem like a terrible way to kill a train ride or the like. And yeah, I've listened to all sorts of music through all sorts of speakers strapped to my head and it's pretty cool. Sure, the quality isn't as good as full-sized speakers but boy they're convenient.

In fact, my favorite portable speakers are sewn into a Nike winter skullcap. Those things are freaking awesome. I'm always a little bummed when it gets warm and I have to go back to headphones

Looking forward to it. This is what I’m pulling with what Etex provides in my area and this is with all of devices hooked up. My son is currently on his Xbox 360 and I’m about to play my Xbox One.

Sky Fibre Unlimited

Entertainment and sport which includes all the football channels, FX, Atlantic (essentially HBO) Film Four, Sky one, loads of documentary channels and a few music.

Netflix is going to integrate with Sky soon so all of their content will be viewable alongside Sky’s in the menu and catch up services.

I have Sky Q which is 4K.

It’s not as high as yours but it comfortably streams 4K, and handles multiplayer COD and FIFA with very smooth gameplay. PS4 downloads load very fast.

Sky supply the modem. I have it hardwired but it works great wireless also.

Does the codec these streaming services are using not matter? I thought with H265 you could push the bitrate lower but still retain the same quality as with H264.

True but a large number of devices do not have H.265 decoders so one would assume most HD streams are encoded with H.264.

I have Cable Systems Fiber and mine is 70/50Mbps, and you guys know I'm Hardwired straight from my Fiber Feed Switch. I don't see any Degradation in Streaming from any Provider. Like I said, I was having Vudu problems with their 4K and HDX Movies, but it was their new Android App and they fixed it. So my Streaming and Sound is Fantastic!

A freehand phone photo of my screen showing the Netflix Test Pattern playing. For Netflix subs that may be interested, search for Test Pattern. The upper right will show the current resolution, frame rate and data rate (in Kbps). Start from the beginning to see how long it takes to ramp up to your max resolution.

[Show spoiler]

IMO, no. Too many TV's, STB's, UHD BD players, etc. out there with H.265 silicon (SoC) decoders. As noted earlier, IMO AV1 was/is a way to force better terms from the patent holders of H.265. Judging from the changes that have occurred, it worked. What AV1 will do to the HTML5 video world is an unknown at this time.

Speaking of angles, what’s yours Donster? Like Flyry before you, you ask a question of me then ignore the answer. Speaks volumes to me.

I don't have SkyQ myself. The 4K channels on it are taken directly from a satellite feed. You don't need any broadband to stream them on your TV. SkyQ has a channel called Sky UHD which showcases all of it's best content in 4K including some live sport from the English Premier League football & the Formula 1 championship. I also heard from Sky recently that HDR is going to be introduced on SkyQ boxes very soon.

I assume Steedeel that you are very happy with that news?

Yeah, but obviously the Sky store stuff requires broadband as does the catch up services.

HDR? Yeah happy about sports, nature docs etc.. for films I am strictly Blu-ray and UHD disc Dublin.

It looks like Comcast has successfully bid to buy Sky; how do you both feel about that? Comcast has a terrible reputation here in the U.S.

It’s different in the U.K. we have several choices. I understand you guys often don’t when it comes to broadband etc.. in my opinion, they are all greedy.
