30 minute drama shows will become hugely popular over the next couple of years and from there, stage 1 of the Steedeel prediction will kick in. 20 minutes, 15 minutes do you see? Last edited by Steedeel; 11-11-2018 at 09:40 AM. |

Apple will make certain films exclusive to their Apple TV box. This will start the trend. I guarantee this will happen. That’s the future that you guys who buy digital will have brought on us. Short form and exclusives are coming. I just hope movies survive the war. |

It is surprising disc have done this well when compared to the decline in box office power.

I sold off most of my BD collection to pay for school. I do have PRIME, HULU, Netflix, Shudder, and FilmStruck to offset that. It's totally fine. Even when I do buy a film, it will most likely be the Digital HD version. The last BD I bought was the new Batman Animated Series, but that was due to paying just $66 for it shipped from the UK. That's a no-brainer and we're also talking about one of the greatest animated shows of all time - I made an exception. Just yesterday I bought the Digital HDX version of the Complete Cowboy Bebop series on VUDU for $9.99. Another no-brainer.
I will happily co-exist within the digital and physical realms but I am no longer placing priority on a tangible object like I used to. As far as streaming/subscription services go - I cut the cable chord years ago. I like to customize my services and even those, on a per month average, is way less than what I was paying for cable alone. I have my PS4 that I use as my hub for the various apps and my Apple TV for FilmStruck, Kanopy, Hoopla, etc. |

You insist that movies and TVs are in danger, too. They aren't, but keep on persisting with your insisting. You are a reliable source of unintentional comedy. You could be this forum's version of the supermarket tabloid if only you had a wider range of material to offer than just this same old headline over and over again. 30 minute time slot TV shows, regardless of genre, have been popular for decades. Great job predicting something that has already been the case for longer than you have even been alive. ![]() ![]() There will be no shift en masse to short form content; it is already 130 years old and it has in no way hurt longer form content. They have coexisted all of this time and they will continue to do so. You still have presented ZERO evidence showing that long form content is in even the slightest of declines. It is actually growing. Global box office revenue has grown every single year since 2005. Projections for 2018 show growth as well. The $ don't lie. Long form content is doing fine. https://www.statista.com/statistics/...ffice-revenue/ Kinda amazing that long form content is so resilient despite your misguided beliefs that people are increasingly suffering from shortened attention spans while also being obsessed with their phones. How is it that movies are faring so well with such a double whammy pandemic? Big screen TVs are growing in both size and in sales, 4K models in particular. Sales of 4K TVs are up 80% so far this year, but yet, according to you, we will eschew the TV in favor of watching short subjects on our phones. You honestly could not be more ridiculous about both short subjects and TVs if you made peddling your unhinged predictions your full time job. Last edited by Vilya; 11-11-2018 at 04:54 PM. |

Unless you own entirely state of the art flagship gear and also keep up with every new advancement, you, like most of us, said "good enough" somewhere along the way.
Unless you scour the globe for the best home video release of your favorite films and then buy them no matter the cost and then buy them again when a still better release comes out, you have again said "good enough." Last edited by Vilya; 11-11-2018 at 04:51 PM. |

Can we replace “good enough” with “have to do for now”? That is the way I have thought about physical things. I repaired then worked in color television production for 16 years before I could afford to purchase my first new 27" console color TV with a remote control. I never thought my monochrome or small, used color TV’s were “good enough”.

I want better gear than I have, but it has to do for now. Not that I'm complaining; my "make-do" solution pleases me far more often than it doesn't. Lots of discs I'd like to upgrade, too, but choosing between buying an altogether new title or upgrading an existing one is a never ending conundrum. |

I am guilty of making some assumptions, I just assume folks that visit a site like Blu-ray.com would be interested in better quality picture and sound. Otherwise, why visit a site like this, I’m not sure what the motivation is.

I can agree with you on this. Digital codes are often a part of the disc combo packs and that alone makes digital a relevant topic for this website.
Plus, many of the digital fans are a lot of fun to converse with. I haz Vudu now because of them. Last edited by Vilya; 11-11-2018 at 07:38 PM. |
