Deadpool 2 is having a PG-13 version released which had a theatrical release. Venom has no such additional releases. My point still stands. |

If reports on AVS Forum are to be believed, IMAX Enhanced, at least for now, is nothing more than a bunch of hooey. The IMAX mode on the certified receivers decoding the DTS: X tracks on the two current IMAX 4k discs from Mill Creek trips a setting and adds an artificial boost to the LFE sub output... overriding your system calibration settings... and "cooking the books" as to the bass output.
They also still seem to be 7.1.4 DTS: X tracks. The added Center Height "channel" touted is matrix derived. Add to that the potential of changing certain movies' aspect ratios to "fill your screen with more picture." So far... I would have to say... no thanks! Even so, the expanded AR might not apply to everything as Venom didn't embiggen for its IMAX run (it was shot primarily in anamorphic so there's literally nothing to embiggen above and below the frame). So if it doesn't expand then what's left? IMAX's "proprietary" image enhancements, that in all likelihood do exactly the same for the video as with the "IMAX" audio: give it a boost to make it 'pop' more and hope nobody's paying too much attention to the particulars.

Apologies I meant specifically just the last 2. But the only reason I even care about IMAX ENHANCED is really just for and the get my hope up for 2049. I love that ****ing movie. Everything else concerning it I care little for. I just need to see that world blown up like in the theater.

As much as I'd love to have the IMAX version of Ghost Protocol - although the actual IMAX scenes in the UHD still look absolutely amazeballs* - it's very much dependent on Bird changing his tune, yeah.
* Fun fact: they used 8-perf 65mm as well as the full 15-perf 65mm on that show, keeping the 15-perf in reserve for the biggest shots. IMAX VFX output in 4K. |
