Theaters to go extinct?

I just got back from seeing The Bourne Ultimatum at a movie theater. I really enjoyed the movie, but I couldn't help thinking to myself the whole time how much better it would look on blu-ray. It seems we have reached the point where home technology surpassed theater technology. Now I do realize many people go to movies for social reasons, and that may may keep them alive. However, you have to think that as more and more people get hdtv's and blu-ray players, that movie theaters are going to do worse and worse business until they are few and far between.

Maybe I'm just a kook or conspiracy nut, i don't know, anyone have a thought on the subject?
