Hate to play the devils advocate here, but I do not think the problem will go away. For every one person who stops these remarks, there are another one who joins the ranks to take his place. It is sad, but i think with the situation of the world right now, there is no end in sight. It is something that we wil have to live among and do our best to not take offense and to report it and handle it the best we can. We still need to do our part to keep it clean, but, that will not solve the issue.
