I wouldn't want to pay a monthly subscription to play video games. Netflix is the same way, and you get all kinds of movies you'll never watch with Netflix.

I just want the game I want (cartridge, disc, etc), and play it forever whenever I want. You own the disc, but you don't own anything on a service like Netflix and movies on Netflix expire after a while. Everything on Netflix is temporarily there and you own nothing on it.
