Replicant was surprisingly good.

In Hell was excellent. Can't wait until comes out on Blu-ray.

Still haven't seen Maximum Risk.

I've seen those Uni SOl movies and they were decent. Regeneration isn't out on blu-ray here in Australia and Day of Reckoning is hard to find.

The Bouncer I haven't seen and it's gotten quite a few mentions in this thread so I'll have to check it out.

I wanted to mention something else. It is said that that the MK character Johnny Cage is based on JCVD, but isn’t it more fitting for Seagal? I’m sure JCVD had an ego back then, but I don’t think it can comes close to SS. JCVD has often made himself look vulnerable in his films while SS wasn’t as likely to do that. SS is WAY more smug.

Maximum Risk is probably one of his most underrated. Really well made with some great action and car chases.

Nowhere to Run is also highly underrated. One of the few films I watch yearly.

Yep, this film inspired me to buy a Beretta 92FS years ago. Unfortunately it was black, and not the sexier 92FS Inox as seen in VD's safe deposit box.

Always really liked that one, too. He tried something different pretty early on in his carreer, but people and his fans just wanted to see him make the same martial arts movie over and over again. It's a drama with little, yet tense action. Really good movie imo.

With all this talk about Maximum Risk, I blind bought it just now used on amazon for $8 and change shipped. That trailer is awesome. I remember that trailer playing what seemed like all summer in the theater previews. I guess that would have been ‘96. I’ve just been Van dammed.

Mill Creek has it. Whether or not they will release it is anyone's guess, but buying the upcoming Double Team release will send the message that it's wanted.

I was in a JCVD mood today and decided to catch up on watching a bunch of his movies I own but never watched.

First up was Cyborg, which is crazy how I never watched it. My favorite of the bunch today, a couple decent FX stop motion effects but also a really intimidating villain and fight scenes.

Next up, Death Warrarnt which I found to be good although there isn’t much to it. Reminds me of a less complicated Escape Plan.

Third up was The Hard Corps, probably the most surprising of the bunch. I had writen off most DTV movies but found it really entertaining. VA Fox still has it even after the first time I saw her years earlier in Independce Day.

Last was Second in Command, another DTV movie that I expected little of but exceeded expectations with some decent tension. Similar to Rules of Engagment with an embassy under siege, not as well staged as that one episode Homeland, but still effective enough to keep my attention.

I had written off a lot of JCVD DTV movies when I was younger but I’m glad to be watching them now since I think they hold up better than most other DTV action movies.

I think this happened to me. I liked Nowhere to Run, but by 1996 I was wondering when we were going to get another Kickboxer/Bloodsport/Lionheart kind of film. I thought The Quest was going to be that. When it didn’t deliver I lost interest in JCVD. The only post Double Team movie I’ve seen was In Hell. Which I liked, but I haven’t seen his other post late 90’s movies.

The combo of no new Bloodsport and the release of Double Team just did it for me. Then he hit DTV land he had no credibility left in my mind.

I was in High School at the time and I remember others having a similar opinion.

Like I said in my last post, I was basically done with JCVD at this point. In fact, I think the main reason I got it off PPV was because the chick from Species was in it.

I will give it another shot though.

Bloodsport was both a blessing and a curse for JCVD. It made him a superstar. A martial arts sensation. But he wanted to be an actor. Which is why he tried so many different things in his career. Yet people weren't interested in his non straight up martial arts movies. They wanted to see the martials arts sensation from Bloodsport in another straight up tournament/martial arts movie. So whenever he tried something different it automatically sucked for many people because their expectations weren't met. Especially early on in his career. Nowadays people seems accept his non martial arts movies a lot better. Just look how much praise The Bouncer gets for example.
