I have always been fascinated by Kaleidescape, but just a bit too pricey. They got me started doing my own Blu-ray and DVD Back ups, I thought it's just a File on a Storage Device. Put that File on a Server and you have the same Quality. Now they are working with DV and HDR to bring that PQ up to Bitrates where most Streaming Providers can handle. Isn't Technology Wonderful? Hard drives, servers, and optical discs are ALL storage devices; why you have such an aversion to the latter is peculiar especially seeing as they last longer than the first two by a wide measure. I like my TV a lot, too, even though there are better TVs out there. It does 3D and 4K both. I loves my 3D. ![]() Technology is wonderful, except maybe for smartphones. Some people think that they are causing people to grown horns out of their heads. ![]() https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/21/healt...rnd/index.html I can't wait to hear what steedeel makes of this report! ![]() Last edited by Vilya; 06-21-2019 at 11:31 PM. |

If anything is happening, it's that consumers are moving away from watching live broadcasts of 30 minute or 1 hour TV shows (with 22 and 44 minute of actual content, respectively) in favor of binge watching multiple episodes at a time on streaming sites. You seem obsessed with this idea that movies are going to get chopped up into short little segments. There is absolutely no evidence that that is ever going to be the case. None. Just because short segments of things show up on YouTube and social media sites doesn't mean anything. Consumers view those videos with a different attitude than the one they have when they watch TV shows and movies. Just because highlights of a sporting event or single bits from talk shows show up on social media and streaming sites doesn't mean that TV shows and movies are suddenly going to be reduced to 15-minute programs. |

Besides, we face all kinds of threats to long form viewing. Scientists are saying prolonged sitting is the new smoking in relation to our health. We have tree huggers trying to convince the world to go vegan and reduce our carbon footprint. We have several mobile-only, short form streaming services coming that may disrupt long form viewing for millennials and younger. Finally we have a Vegan movement that encourages one to be a ‘true Vegan’. This means no more tv screens, mobile screens, tablets, computers in one’s home because Liquid Crystal Displays contain animal cholesterol. We live in a weird world, look how fast meat free products have entered the mainstream. Last edited by Steedeel; 06-22-2019 at 10:34 AM. |

The only ones falling into traps is those pigeonholing the “younger” generation. It is a cope out and has been the same from generation to generation for millennia’s. So when people bring up “kids these days!” argument it reminds me of every ending of a Scooby Doo cartoon

I agree with you. I've always believed even the foods that weren't particularly healthy, in moderation, were perfectly OK. I've always been a meat eater, and I don't have time for vegans who wish to impose their diet on me.

![]() I will laugh no harder than this all day and I will share this fear of yours far and wide that others may have a good laugh, too. Those same young people watch movies; they binge watch traditional length TV shows, and they buy big screen TVs. They enjoy the same things that you and I do and, apparently, quite a few things that you do not. You obsess about these perceived differences while being blind to the many behaviors that you have in common with them. We have had short form video content dating back to the 19th century. There is also a website called youtube that is rather well known for the short videos it offers. Short form content has coexisted with long form content for over a century and it has not in any way adversely impacted long form content. People sit for prolonged periods doing a wide range of activities from their office job, to reading a book, to playing a video game, to knitting a sweater, to staring into space, to growing old in a waiting room, and, yes, to even watching a movie. Sitting for too long is unhealthy, but no one is going to regulate how long you or I sit doing anything. How long we spend seated is our choice, healthy or unhealthy, and that will not change no matter what we choose to do while so comfortably positioned. None of the vegans that I have known have ever pressured me to do anything. They have shared their views with me and nothing more. I made my own choice as did they. Even if there are extremist vegans who want to take your tacos and your TVs away, which I highly doubt, it will never happen. There has never been a shortage of extremist groups demanding any number of dramatic changes and the one thing that they all have in common is how colossally they fail at achieving their aims. Meat free products have been offered for decades. I occasionally buy them myself and I have been doing so for over 30 years. Every meat product that I could possibly desire is still readily available. We live in a diverse world, not a "weird" one, and I would not have it any other way. Labeling something as "weird" is usually just a negative emotional reaction to something beyond our very limited personal experience. Many people reflexively dislike things that they do not understand, so they slap a negative name on it. Human diversity is a wellspring of creativity that I welcome and that I celebrate. Exactly as it should be - we all make our own choices. But here in the UK, there have been one or two reports in the media where vegan groups have been protesting inside supermarkets next to the meat aisles attempting to discourage, even harassing shoppers from buying meat. I'm assuming the management would have shown them the door pretty quickly as otherwise customers would just buy elsewhere.

It appears AT&T has low hopes for SVOD DirecTV Now and big hopes on pending SVOD $15 WarnerMedia branded service (here).

Blu-ray yet, but I have it on a DVD box set with 3 disc from Tower Records. I would never get rid of that. |
