Network Distributing will release all 45 episodes of "Monty Python’s Flying Circus", on Blu-ray and DVD, fully restored for the first time ever. Each episode has been painstakingly restored using the original video and film elements exclusively for this release. All four series, along with unseen and excised footage, sketches and much more, will be presented in an exclusive 50th anniversary limited-edition box set available exclusively here from 29th July, with all four individual series available to purchase separately at a later date.

Announced 29th July, but you can register interest via that link now. I presume they take pre-orders in July for an October release which is the 50th Anniversary.

I'm happy that we're getting this but I wish the timing was later in the year. So many sets and limited editions are vying for my attention between now and september and so many are must haves including this.

Hopefully they edit back in the previously missing footage into episodes, choreographed politicians, Jesus on a telegraph pole etc. There's better sources for some of these missing bits.

No mention of the German Specials which should be included.

These will be upscales, but it will be interesting how much film material survives for true HD footage.

Also these should benefit from going back to the PAL master tapes. The Sony DVD release bizarrely used NTSC conversions converted back to PAL.

I'd be surprised if any part of this release is not upscaled.

I'm not expecting them to suddenly have the "silly bunt" line or the cancer stuff restored, but it would be nice if this set was correctly framed. The remastered DVDs were cropped by 5-10% on all sides when compared with any previous release.

Well, 16mm can really look great in HD. I do hope BBC did store it well (considering they were actually about to delete the original tapes at some point...)

If they continue the tradition of excluding the German specials, there's a German DVD released within the last year or so which has them remastered, much better than any of the previous DVDs.

However, it's not English-friendly (as the first German special was recorded by the Pythons speaking German, so there is no English audio in existence).
