Yes, the 4k and blu-ray has been in pre-order in many sites (like dealsareus) and the date has been 10 september, like the Live-Action movie. Same thing with the new releases of blu-ray of the Santa Clause Trilogy (the trilogy is now in pre-order from Best Buy).

Why do you think Disney decided not to release Cinderella (1950) in 4K, but they are with their Renaissance movies?

Maybe something to do with the public considering the Renaissance Princesses better role models than Cinderella, not to bad-mouth any of them?

It makes me wonder if we'll EVER get any Walt-era movies in 4K.

Yes and, for that reason, I think the colloquial positioning of the terms "optical" and "digital" as stand-ins in the video space for the more proper "analog" and "digital" is misguided. However, it is a very common usage.

But I wasn't couching it in those terms, like at all. That's your hang-up, not mine. I can't remember if I've ever even heard/read someone replace "analogue" with "optical" when talking about the format differences in general.

You were talking about optical vs. in-camera. The other common "opposite" of optical is digital. So, I was just making a joke along the lines of "Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do".

4K Restoration work on Cinderella involves film elements and digital restoration tools. The existing 2k-ish master for Cinderella isn't done well enough (lots of errors in it's restoration work as well) to be used as an upscale. The renaissance titles (minus mermaid) are comprised of All-Digital Elements with 2K resolution - they simply need to be upscaled and mastered with an HDR pass. (Mermaid is the exception as it was already restored in 4K many years ago prior to its 3D conversion.)

You will get Walt Era films in 4K, its simply a matter of time. Disney+ will likely be the destination for many 4K Restorations as 4K is being touted as a feature of the service. It took nearly 13 years since the Blu-ray format launched to get the majority of the animated library in HD and there are still titles missing. Like Disney with each previous format titles will roll out over time to maximize sales using their marketing channels.

I'm not familiar enough with Akira to speak to it.
Treasure Planet was also released in IMAX 70mm.
Fantasia: The Original Classic also had a 70mm blow-up in 1990.
Frozen was apparently made for Technirama, despite being a CGI film.
AKIRA was specifically made for 70mm, as mentioned in one of the bonus features in the Criterion LaserDisc, but AKIRA was only animated in 35mm, and in a VistaVision size of 1:85:1.

I find it kinda funny that the time period between the platinum release and the diamond release was sooooooooo long and now the diamond to signature release is comparatively two and a half minutes.

I think Disney don't care about the time period between releases these days. Which is why I don't get why they just don't release the remaining Signature Collection titles at once. Disney should just release their entire catalog on 4K at the same including Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, etc... and see how much people are willing to spend money at a short time. Kind of a cool experiment.

Can’t wait for this one. Also can’t believe it’s been 27 years since I watched this in the theater. Hopefully Beauty and the Beast is not far behind.

It was censored way back in 1992, even before it was released on home video.

Treasure Planet was animated in the same CAPS format as Aladdin with a 2K digital master. Frozen is created digitally in 2K as well. Fantasia 1940 was photographed is 35mm successive exposure, the 70mm is just a blow-up of the 1990 restoration elements.
