Should be less than $6M now and that's without the updated overseas actuals.

I doubt it. Tuesdays are the slow days for movie theaters. I've had two different theaters corroborate that for me. No one really knows why, but it is. I went to a Tuesday showing fairly recently (in the last couple of weeks) and the theater was practically a dead mall. It's strange really why that day out of all of them is the bad one. Wednesdays pick up and do much better.

According to most of the internet and MCU fanboys, Avengers: Endgame is close to beating out Avatar for the highest grossing film of all time. Disney is even putting it back into theaters with an extended cut to make sure it hits that mark.

But the fact is that they are not even remotely close to taking that title. And neither was Avatar. Adjusted to inflation neither film is in the top ten let alone the top two spots. And the only fair way to look at a statistic like box office gross is to adjust the numbers to inflation. Because older films like Gone With The Wind or Star Wars would have made more today if they sold the same number of tickets.

It's the truth. So stop posting memes about Avengers beating out Avatar or obsessing over Endgame being the highest-grossing film of all time. It's pointless because it is not going to be even close even after this recent run in theaters.

If I were at Disney, I would actually be rooting for the Avengers to fall a bit short. Endgame is fine, the MCU is fine. That franchise will continue making all the money.

But they also have sequels to Avatar coming out. Expensive, long-delayed follow-ups to a movie that is not only long gone from the pop culture, but is "cool" to hate on. Being sequels to "THE BIGGEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME" is a valuable marketing hook that I wouldn't want to lose.

Besides, it would be really smart for Disney to re-release Avatar before the sequel opens. So Endgame could end up being nothing but a placeholder, a transitional champion.

Records are meant to be broken. My guess is this record will be broken again within 3-5 years.

When EG passes Avatar for biggest selling movie ever, I'm positive Disney/Marvel are going to put an asterisk and fine printing on all the merchandise reminding everyone that it's only a paper champ. Please. Nobody will care about the points you brought up or whatever was linked aside from a few forum jockeys and nerds that follow that kind of stuff (not saying you're wrong, but heh, the general public won't know or care...and for that matter, nor will Di$ney).

LOL...I was a little snarky, I can admit that, but no harm meant, I mean who wants to be lumped in with all these "MCU fanboys"?? That is just crossing the line!!

Endgame has made more on Tuesday than Monday 7 out of the 11 weeks it has been out. Tuesdays generally show a bump. Three of the 4 times it did not happen - Opening Week, Memorial Day, Bonus post credit material. For all movies together, the Box office has been higher on almost every Tuesday all year. The only exceptions were holidays. Wednesdays typically see a drop.

Tuesday is usually the highest grossing day outside of the weekend.

Whatever those theaters "corroborated" for you, was specific to them.

Oh look.

It’s the “adjusted for inflation” argument

Studios don’t give a flying f*ck about inflation!

And if we’re to use that, then NO FILM will EVER top Gone With The Wind for all of eternity.

The only thing Avatar has that Endgame night not achieve is it sold more tickets.
