Black Panther started with a low rating too before it came out and then rose after it did.

I'd actually love if they made a prequel to this (rather than a sequel), there's actually several lines in this movie that actually sets that up.

[Show spoiler]Scar basically saying "I would never dream of challenging you. . again (all but implying that Mufasa was probably the cause of his scar in this continuity), his obsession with Sarabi and him stating that she chose Mufasa over him, and Zazu basically saying Simba reminded him of Mufasa when he was little.

I was extremely excited to see this and left feeling disappointed and let down. I had to come home and watch the original version to wash the taste of this one from my mouth.

I didn’t care for Scar in the least. His voice didn’t have the same snarky and menacing tone as Irons did. I also didn’t like Beyoncé as Nala, Kasumba as Shenzi, Oliver as Zazu or Kani as Rafiki. Circle of Life and Can You Feel the Love Tonight were cheap imitations of the originals, but I did like I Just Can’t Wait to Be King and Hakuna Matata. I have other nitpicks, but there’s no need to list the rest.

As a whole much of the movie felt hollow and void of the emotion of the original. As it stands I’d rate this down with Cinderella as my two least favorite live action remakes. I hate that because The Lion King has always been my favorite and I wanted to love this version.

I’ll give it a 2.5/5 due to the visuals and what I did like about it.

Idris didn't voice Scar, Chiwetel Ejiofor did.

Beyonce and Glover were definitely the weakest parts.

Kind of funny how all the actors and director raved about working with Beyonce, and her performance, apparently, is one of the weaker aspects.

At least her album is solid, The Gift.

Come on everyone admit it,no way was this movie worth a 5.1 that the sabotagers had a week ago on imdb, that was uncalled for. Saw the movie on Thursday, while its not as good as the original which is a classic and a 10/10, this was a great effort and deserving of a 7.5 at the very least,if not an 8. That 5.1 is just screwing around with the movie, what do you think this is the haunting of Sharon tate?
The 2.5 scores are mind boggling though.

Someone hacked into it and added a personal opinionated summary on how they felt about the movie. It also read as if they hadn’t even seen it. You didn’t miss anything.

To much negativity in the thread to have posted before seeing the Lion King 2019.
Watched this in IMAX in 3D with the family. The picture and sound were off the scale in the IMAX.
Watched the original before going so fresh in my mind
The original as for so many people was just brilliant. The emotion the music.
The stage show is awesome
Even the show in the animal kingdom has its place
The family all loved this.
When Mufasa dies all were in tears as we lost our family dog not so long ago so it was on our minds. Having a cat as a pet as well you could see that the film makers have been studying the animals as they did for the original.
The only thing we did not like was you could not tell which lioness was which.
A solid 9.5 out of 10 for me

Sorry folks but Disney are going to have another smash hit here

The Lion King special that was on ABC Tuesday night, called “The Lion King: Can You Feel The Love Tonight with Robin Roberts” is NOT available On Demand. WHY? I missed it due to cable outage. Guess I will never get to see it.

I'm not sure why they shortchanged Be Prepared with Scar. That was such a big moment in the original and a favorite song of many. Why would they cut it down to less than a minute? I don't understand that decision.

Otherwise, as a big fan of the show Nature and animals, I enjoyed this film for that aspect especially. To see the story told as if it could really happen in real life, instead of just animation.

The reason it's been changed is that the hyenas and Scar's relationship, while still similar, has changed somewhat.

He's not rallying a bunch of idiotic mooks, he's rallying a bunch of sociopathic killers. They literally threaten to eat him during their first scene together.

The real world is not as negative as what you see online (thank God). The general consensus is that the movie is not bad, but that's not saying a lot since the original is perfect and no one expected this to be as "perfect." I think the take away is that this movie is good and fun for people who are fond of the original but won't mind photorealistic animals that lack the expression of the originals. That's really the main hurdle of this whole remake.

If anyone's been keeping track (and I know there are a few creepers out there that seem to keep track of what everyone's posted for the past 5 years) I went into this wanting to see exactly that. I wanted to feel like I was watching a nature documentary.

It could've been a little better (mainly with JEJ and Beyoncé's acting; and the Nala/Simba reunification) but I can forgive the rest. It was never going to be better than the cartoon though, and I don't know how it ever could've been.

I noticed the kids loved it though, and I heard audible crying around the theater when Mufasa died.

Easter eggs: I LOVED the Beauty and the Beast gag. Also, was Dumbo technically in this?

Saw it this afternoon, like the other Disney remakes this year with Dumbo and Aladdin I felt it was fine but a bit underwhelming. The extra running time was apparent, and kinda a bit disappointing that I felt the most impressive sequence was Circle of Life, the one part they lifted directly from the original film.

While the visuals might not have felt as quite as remarkable as they did in Jungle Book, they of course were still very impressive. And the 5 expanded full IMAX sequences were awesome (also had the best 3D in the movie as well).

Caught with my kid.

Very underwhelmed. I was downright bored.

My biggest gripe - line delivery. It sounds like people were just reading off the page and sound so bored. When they delivered lines verbatim, it sounded so monotone compared to the original line deliveries.

The film does best when it went off the map and gave us original moments, but they were so few, that it wasn't enough.

The CGI was top rate, but there was little magic.

The music is just not at the level as the animated version.

3 1/2 of 5 Stars

Just got out of this and while the film is not bad per say. It is not great either. The entire time I felt like something was missing and the whole thing just seemed a little lifeless. And like the poster above I have to agree. The line delivery all seemed so toneless and just reading off the page. There was just no heart in it at all.

Why exert any effort when audiences are gonna lap it up anyways and give Disney another billion+ worldwide?
