Counting MOD, that's a true statement. Without it, not even close.

For us, back in the day, we'd make sure our two locals new that they could sell us the used ones that were just taking up space, even ones that didn't play so well anymore, when they wanted to ditch them, and we'd pay $20, under the table, nice undeclared income. They knew we weren't in the market to open a competing store and ebay hadn't been invented yet, so they'd mark them as lost or damaged and save on the taxes from resale by passing them to us.

Once Blockbuster took over, those days were gone and they would actually trash bad VHS, at the ones near my home, all under the same regional manager, a man with whom I didn't get along. He insisted that it was better to throw them away, rather than sell them used, owing to how many people tried to return them, due to the wavy lines. I then found out he was marking many of the trashed VHS as stolen. What a prince. Once DVD took over, all of a sudden, there were used bins everywhere, in the Blockbuster and even the grocery store.

Times change but, surely, I'm not the only one who used to open those suckers up and splice the tape at the bad points, to get the film to play again. All you needed was some editor's tape, readily available, and you could watch a really great erotic thriller with the naughty bits half-edited out. The good old days?

To hell with VHS. UMD Video is where it's at.

Dark Force should look into this format.

In all seriousness, though, David really should look into doing a DVD, even if it has to be sourced from the VHS, of Heavy Metal Massacre, and he should include a CD as a second disc, and he should do a full-length commentary on the thing. Why? I'm not paying $55 to import the Pakistani version and I really want to see it. Please David? Please?

As an aside, my MOD, BD-R version of "Road To Hell" and the official Soundtrack CD, which were/are authorized by Pyun himself, to be sold by a guy calling himself Stinky Tuna, which were/are totally above board (I'm not even kidding, that's how he officially released the thing), are, as a set, one of my favourite things. The movie is just terrible enough for me to love it and who wouldn't want a companion album to the original Streets of Fire.... No one, that's who. It was a surprisingly wonderful little set, so good in fact, I bought copies to give away to other Streets of Fire fans in my circle of friends.

This could be the "Heavy Metal Massacre: Ultra Limited Edition: Finding Bobbi Young: CD/DVD Combo Pack Extravaganza". I'm not even kidding. I'd buy at least three copies.

Good luck finding a player. I've actually had luck finding several films on the CED format but players are pretty much non existent... and if we're being honest, that's ok. VHS/Laserdisc/VCD this is not.

Movies for the Sony PSP handheld. There was talk at one point of using the Universal Media Disc format for portable video players, but they never materialized.

TripleHBK is right. The glow in the dark slipcover for The Dead Pit really is one of the nicest slips to grace my collection.

if DF can get packaging right, perhaps they'll eventually get the other stuff right (high quality scans, 24/7 webstore etc...)

I picked up my first Dark Force title today...and I didn't even have to bother with the website. Someone had turned in PRIMAL SCREAM used at one of the local Half Price Books. Got it for $10. Probably too much, but color me curious.

P.S. I'm also amused that the credits on the back of the case read "PRODUCE BY HOWARD FOULKROD" and "WEITTEN AND DIRECTED BY WILLIAM MURRAY."
