One thing that really struck me while watching this is how superb the DV grade is. It's subtle but at the same time it completely brings new life to the image. The scene where Wendy and Danny are sitting watching TV in front of the large windows is so lifelike with the sun and detail, it was startling.

Man, I'd love to be dressed down like you. I've got to wear this monkey suit all day.

BTW, "customs" aren't necessarily fan art. A custom could be the original poster art, which is what I'd like for this and always opt for. It's great stuff really.

It'd be great if the big studios could start offering double-sided inserts with original poster or key art but they don't and opt for awful stand-ins that are every so often insulting to the movie. WB's new Gremlins art is absolutely atrocious but their Oz Steelbook art is gorgeous.
Very interesting. I never had anything other than the basic printer set up. In fact, I don't even have a printer now. I don't print enough at home to justify one. I remember when movies used to come with double-sided inserts, but they were mostly on Adult films. I don't recall seeing them on any other movies. Though some album artwork did have some interchangeable artwork. Whether that was intentional or not I don't know.

Default A Gem & Other G’s

Kicked off this year’s 31 Days of Halloween over in the Movies thread with this gem of a release last night.

Kubrick? Genius.
The Shining? (one of the) Greatest.
UHD + DV + OLED? Glorious.

I did not know that. That's interesting. I've only ever had one Arrow release, but I never bothered to look to see if it was double-sided. I just figured nobody did that anymore. Even the Adult ones quit doing it. You really do learn something new every day.

Also boutique labels like Vinegar Syndrome, Mondo Macabro, and Severin still do it all the time.

This 20 min look into the home video versions of the film is very interesting.

Thanks for that. It's briefly mentioned, and inconclusive, but I'm not complaining. Just after years of watching it with the titles centered, or near center, it stood out.

Same here. What a way to start. I'll be watching the Alien and Dracula 4K's for the first time this week as well.

Uhh, did anyone else get freaked out by how real everything was with HDR combined with Kubrick’s heightened reality? The scene where Danny sees Jack sitting on the edge of the bed stood out as feeling like I was in the room with them and it was even more unsettling than normal

I noticed Kurbricks colour timing seems to have deliberately made the whites of Danny's eyes whiter for effect. Which really shows in the HDR.

I laughed quite a bit out of nervousness/creepiness watching it last night. I've never done that with a movie, period, let alone one I've seen numerous times. I didn't attribute it to the new transfer, but there was a point where I remarked about how clear it was to my friend. So, I guess I was right there with you subconsciously.

Seeing the head chef's eyes dilate when he's laying in bed was crazy.
