So, low key, does anyone think that the monster in "Gray Matter" was connected to the space weed in "The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill", in the original "Creepshow"? I know they're supposed to be standalone episodes, but that's what I kept thinking. The lack of an explanation for why he changes bothers me. It has to be the beer, and that it's infected with something. When I first saw all the moss and mold that has taken up residence in the absence of the boy, that's what I was thinking. "Oh, it's a sequel to Jordy Verrill!" But then they never revealed it, though! I know it's a metaphor for alcoholism and all that, and how it consumes everything. But I still think there's a connection there, even if they're being quiet about it.
I was getting Resident Evil 7 vibes all throughout the episode. And if you remember, the last time we left the space grass in "Jordy Verrill", it was headed for a copious rainstorm and it was implied that it would take over a lot of the county, or at least that area. But maybe it didn't. Maybe it just...stopped. Something interfered with it. And it mutated. I think the beer is infected with it, and that's why he changes as he keeps drinking it. For me, the key is that the box of beer already has mold on it at the beginning, and how they're saying they can't get rid of it. As soon as I saw that at the beginning, knowing this is a "Creepshow" episode, I immediately thought, "That's no mold".
We know the guy hasn't been outside of his house in weeks, so he can't be responsible for it. Why would it already have the mold on it? Unless the whole product line is contaminated to begin with. The reason nobody else notices (that we know of), is because he's drinking too much of the damn stuff, and they're not; that's why he's mutating. I know I'm overthinking it, but it seems that there's an obvious connection between the two of them to me!
