Amazon did price match the Bergman set during the sale period in November 2018 since I remember placing my pre-order there back when I still had Prime and that I remember that they actually packaged it well in a protected box which they were still doing a decent job of then.

The three film of his that I’ve seen were riveting: Crash, A History of Violence, and Eastern Promises. Should Criterion get rights to Crash, I’d jump at the chance to own the blu-Ray. The last two I own on DVD, and will upgrade. I like that he’s a risk taker, unafraid to examine the darker side of humanity; his camera doesn’t flinch when showing things that might make a good portion of his viewing audience uncomfortable.

I have The Fly arriving tomorrow from Amazon. What should be my next selection: The Brood, Scanners, Videodrome or Naked Lunch?

Thank you in advance.
Videodrome and The Brood.

As previously alluded to in our discussion, Douglas Sirk was a master. I am in complete agreement after only two films. Now, I have to order the Universal blu set of Imitation of Life.
As Dailyan says, check out The Tarnished Angels (Kino in the US, Eureka MoC in the UK). If you go Eureka, I also recommend the DVD of There is Always Tomorrow. Those are his two best IMHO (although I need to rewatch Written on the Wind, been waiting on a Criterion upgrade).

Interesting. I had an Amazon pre-order in for it but cancelled as I decided to pick it up in person from B&N. It must have dropped after I cancelled as my pre-order was for $192 (according to my records).

So, they may well price-match the Godzilla set.

Was it ever confirmed that more Almodóvar would be released on Criterion via Sony Classics?

Warning, the UK version of The Tarnished Angels is OOP.

have you seen Minnelli’s melodramas from that era? Home from the Hill is an all-timer imo

I wonder if WB would ever be so kind as to let Criterion give this movie the special attention it deserves.

One can only hope.

Of the Cronenberg titles on Criterion, Videodrome and The Brood, easily. Mind-bending concepts and the latter of the two is genuinely frightening in parts.

I'm not a big Cronenberg fan but The Brood is very good and the CC blu is tops. Haven't seen Videodrome so I should someday. The other film of his I do like is Rabid.

Rabid is crazy. And I think this remake is going to be bonkers.

Didn't know it's being remade, seems like it's unique enough that it's be tough to recreate what Cronenberg did. Maybe they'll go in a different direction though to make it stand on its own?

It looks very ... unsettling.

Granted, it won't have Marilyn Chambers, but still ...

ETA: Oh, and it has C.M. Punk which apparently means a LOT to certain people. But I'm in it for Vandervoort. Always loved her.

Odds on the flash sale being tomorrow? Or will it be delayed until the Godzilla set releases in a couple weeks?

50% off in-store or online for everyone. The set would easily meet the free shipping threshold online. Members ($25/year) get an extra 10% off in-store only.

I think Wednesday is probably more likely, since the 15th is when they may do new announcements, and I don't know if they'd have a sale the same day.
