I completely sympathize with what you're saying and I'm sorry for the pain and discomfort you and your spouse have endured.

But my point is, this is just a movie. That's all it is. To make a blanket statement no children should see this movie (regardless of past abuse or not) because it would be too disturbing for them is ludicrous. That's like saying women shouldn't see movies depicting rape, veterans shouldn't see movies depicting war or recovering alcoholics shouldn't see movies depicting alcohol use. Again, it's just a movie. It's not gratuitous in its depiction of child abuse, it's not heavy handed and it has a fantastical ending.

Let's stop sheltering children and the young from every possible owee life can dish out and maybe they won't grow up to be lazy, self-entitled jerks.
