If you can’t live without the original mono then you should avoid it.

That and the aspect ratio blunder is enough reason for me to avoid this release.

You'd never know it was there if you weren't told about it.

I've never listened to it in the original mono. I don't see a point when there are options to hear the movie in. Plus, mono isn't exactly mono when it comes out as stereo, which defies the entire point in my book.

However, what do you guys mean by the aspect ratio changes during the movie? How does it change?

So the black bars get bigger mid-movie? Or smaller mid-movie? Those shots are confusing.

The bars are becoming bigger @ 36m36s and stay that way for the rest of the movie.

Is the same error present in the 35th anniversary Blu Ray?

Of all the remixes done for classic movies, and we know there are a lot of stinkers in that mix, HALLOWEEN’s is, by far, my favorite. Never going back to the mono, personally.

Diff'rent strokes fer diff'rent folks... HALLOWEEN is one of my least favorite remixes. I own the 4K, 'cuz HALLOWEEN is in my Top Five favorite movies of all time (see signature below), but I only ever watch the remastered edition Blu-ray that came from the boxed set -- which includes the CORRECT mono and not just a fold-down like the standard 35th Anniversary version. I just love the lo-fi sound of the original, especially when it comes to the score. And I vastly prefer the musical sting in the mono as Annie gets whacked.

The newer effects added to the surround mix sound so bad and out of place.

Well, if it comes out as stereo then it’s duel mono. Both channels are identical so is there even any difference between hearing duel mono coming out of two speakers and one channel coming out of a central speaker? Wouldn’t it sound like it’s dead center in both cases?

It’s not a bad mix, but I’ve watched Halloween so many times with the original mono so hearing the 5.1/7.1 sounds weird to me. The added rain and thunder sounds when Loomis and the nurse are driving don’t sound natural to me. They also added a bunch of cricket sounds in certain places which wasn’t in the original mono (not that this is a big deal. It’s just something that sticks out to me).

But probably the main reason I prefer the original mono is for two reasons:
1. When we hear Laurie’s theme when she’s walking to school, it sounds nowhere near as good as it does in the mono. It has a tinny quality that doesn’t sound good.

2. They changed the sound effect when Michael pops up from the back seat in Annie’s car. It’s lost its power in the remix whereas it sounds nice and gritty in the mono. This might’ve been a mistake because there are a couple other instances in the movie where we hear the original version of this particular stinger.

One thing I do prefer about the remix is the opening theme. There are some extra synthesizer strings added that sound awesome. This version of the theme was included in the soundtrack release (albeit with a techno drum beat added in).

It bugs me as well, just because I know it, but I can handle the framing.

The red dot of horror of "Force Awakens" will give me a hard time though (and I'm quite sure I would've noticed that one myself).
