I remember the case of the DVD of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS - not the original one, the remake. In the special features they had an alternative ending. The DVD was yanked from stores about 3 days after it became available and was repressed without the alt. ending. I was lucky enough to buy one on day one. Sold it a year later for $200.

Again, studios rescinding rights should not impact a users collection. The movies only disappear from the store front. |

You can’t care much about film in the first place imo. Especially when any replacement you may be able to buy will probably have been edited to appease the saddos on Twitter who constantly get offended over everything. |

Hey,
tl:dr - I have a new HT setup with out a streaming box. Due to a combination of several reasons I'm trying a new setup where streaming has been removed from my home theater. Why? (because this sounds crazy and surely I'll change my mind)... Ok there's reasons for this... 1- UHD BD is the ultimate software for my home theater. It's the top quality followed by up-converted Blu Ray. Better ingredients, Better Pizza. 2- Lately, I've been using the theater more than ever sometimes watching multiple movies in a single day and in the meantime my kids have classes and exams on the internet and I know I'm not interfering with that by sharing bandwidth. 3- I stopped buying streaming content a while back so most of what I have I have on disc and if I do have something on iTunes that I don't have on disc I want to get the disc while it's still available. 4- Having the UHD BD player as the only source in my current setup means I run the Video Out HDMI directly to the projector without any switcher or any intermediate connectors.... With my current gear this works best and this is really the main reason I'm changing the setup. Projectors can be finicky about HDMI handshake so direct connection works best. The streaming stuff I can watch literally anywhere and that's like my plan B. I have a few TVs in the house so I can stream on those. I can DL iTunes to my iPad and watch when I'm at the DMV or on an airplane or when I'm anywhere I don't want to be. Thankfully, that happens a lot less these days. -Brian Last edited by bhampton; 05-18-2020 at 11:42 AM. |

iTunes is so far the best bet I think in terms of Digital store.
I remember Vudu being even better about never losing any content but now it's been sold and it's maybe going to be somehow different. Some of my movies aren't on the iTunes store but I still have access to them in my library. Amelie for example. I think early Marvel movies (Iron Man, Thor, Captain America) disappeared and reappeared from my actual library but the 3 I"m taking about I just rebought them and that solved it. Some of my iTunes movies are on the store but the iTunes Store doesn't realize I have them in my iTunes library and this annoys me. . Valerian is an example. See attached pic. iTunes wants me to buy or rent this even though I have purchased it in iTunes directly and it's still in the library with extras and 4K for now. At one point I had to decide where to redeem codes first between iTunes and Vudu and I went with iTunes thank goodness. Maybe I already had an ATV4K at the time. My iTunes library is the only online movies I care about these days. I'll read about what happens with Vudu and I hope for the best for users now that it's been sold. I don't buy iTunes content anymore or other streaming content but I subscribe to iTunes music. I suppose MoviesAnywhere is also compelling and I wonder which between those two will be better in time. MA has Di$ney4K s without having to pay for the D+. Last edited by bhampton; 05-18-2020 at 12:44 PM. |
