According to Chad from AVS, who is a travelling ISF technician/calibrator, the G10 had three times the ANSI contrast of the -800U thanks to its deeper blacks and greater light output. I can't find the exact measurement, but overall output is substantially greater than last year's 8xx series models.

That's something Panasonic worked quite hard to do, because they know how sets look in stores and they wanted to work against the "flies to a bug zapper" effect that LCD's have.
