Anyone know if the Blu-ray is the same transfer? Or is it the old Fox release?

In terms of color timing and level of sharpening SC Blu-ray and UHD disc are different.
In that case SC BD disc is almost identical to 2015 Sony disc.

I was gonna wait to see if/when the Zavii steel became available again but my curiosity overrides my patience, so I bit as well.

I also posted that in the International forum but I figured I would have more answers if I also posted here:
So it looks like the video is better on the SC disc but the Atmos is inferior to the Sony release? Anyone who has an Atmos setup and both versions can confirm?

I'm extremely pleased with the picture of the SC release, a HUGE improvement over the over processed Sony release. It matches the 4K cinema screening I saw a month ago at the Orpheum in Sydney.

Now you guys understand how much sharpening Sony adds. It’s ridiculous levels of processing. Their TVs do the same thing and it’s undefeatable. Been saying this for years.

The TV's don't do it unless you set the TV to do it. You can disable any and all of the post processing. It's not some baked in feature you can't disable. I can have it looking extremely soft if I wanted

Also - why can't you judge things as they come, instead of big blanket statements? Not all sony 4k's do this, not all of their tv's do this. Not all laserdiscs are better (I mean none are but whatever). Each release is it's own animal and you can't just see one Sony UHD with too much sharpening and go 'Man sony always does this!'.

Those caps really do show the ugliness of the Sony transfer. Am loving this new encode, and much better colour grading.

You cannot defeat this type of look on Sony TVs completely. You can only reduce it by turning everything off. This type of etched out look is permanently part of their software/engine. I owned more Sony TVs than I can count from the top of my head in the past 20 years. Including several of their top of the line OLEDs and LCDs such as the ZD9. No such shenanigans on LG or Panasonic TVs. And it’s not just TVs when it comes to Sony products either. PS4 does the same. SLR cameras do the same. Even movie theater projectors!!! I saw Alita several times at different theaters and the one with the Sony projectors looked just like TFE.

Never saw this title. Is the yellow-ishness of the SC UHD more accurate to original directors intent or theatrical presentation?

Original movie was shot on film under tungsten light and projected with a 5000K xenon lamp. So yeah.

Skin tones look more realistic on the Sony, but the Studio Canal UHD (and previous Gaumont Blu-rays) look more like what I saw projected back when it was released in 1997. It was like a kaleidoscope of bright, eye-searing colors when stumbling out of the theater ... that was my impression.

I KNEW something was off about the Sony 4K Blu-Ray.
