Lets hope Spielberg does something about Transformers... I REALLY want that movie in HD, and I'm not about to buy an add-on for my 360!

Default The TRUTH

Well it's actuially a microsoft thing...hd-dud,bd they don't want either to win they realized blu was about to become a standard and threatened their eventuial goal of ddl content. Check out 360's video marketplace for a taste
of ddl content. They simply want hd-dud in long enough to keep bd from
wining as a "format" so they can make everyone get their download content.

As to transformers i'm a huge transfan but havn't even given the hd-dud
a second thought...i'll get it on dvd or netflix the dvd but giving microsoft
any $ales for their bribe to EXTEND this format war is money POORLY spent.

I'm more used to this waiting game because when lotr arrived i ignored it until
the ee arrived also i wouldn't but anything from sony until it arrived in superbit
so here we go again with the waiting game. Though i've bought alot of paramount bd movies so they can remember what $ales were because i
serouslly doubt they'll even be half that on hd-dud.

I'll see you in 18 months or less-if bd decimates hd-dud this holiday paramount.

DON'T do yourself a DISSERVICE by getting transformers on hd-dud-by waiting we'll have a better disc anyway with pip and internet features
that wouldn't be there today.

I can't wait to see what the holiday brings.

Don't get it on VOD. That's what the studio and M$ really want you to do. If you do, the step to downloading it from the internet will be that much easier.

It'll be funny if it turns into a disc you need to boil. More bad publicity for HD media. IMO M$ will use sabotage if necessary.

Wow, God himself is on our forum! Personally, I don't see why Toshiba would work with Microsoft if this fact was so obviously true. It is certainly possible though..

Angry HD & paramount.. what a shame!!!

all of this sucks, we live in a society where whoever has money has power which means they can bribe or buy anyone! The fact that Michael Bay opened his heart to share with us all his opinions and the very next day he changed his post says it all, money buys everybody! Someone from Paramount probably contacted him demanting he either retract that post or he is no longer directing the sequel, and that's what happened! From what I see things are really getting pathetic, instead of a clean war between two giants where customers can make final decision on which format to purchase, now we also have to worry with the "it' factor which is called dishonesty. From now on you can expect dishonesty anywhere and/or everywhere. Its like going to see a fight where you're so sure this heavyweight champion is gonna win and somehow he looses for this skinny rookie.. I'm afraid of making bets if you ask me, because I'm so sure and same time afraid some big company already bought the game and know way in advance the score! You gotta admit blu ray was selling way more dvds than HD, and that’s not something you take for granted, customer made their decision! Everywhere I read is all about I'll stick to what is cheap, I'll stand behind to whats more affordable, whats that all about, porn decided to go with HD just because HD is more affordable to produce. Guess what BMW, Mercedes, Lexus ain't cheap but they are better cars. sometimes cheap is not always the best. I remember when I started collecting dvds right second week it was released, I would go to a store and nobody, and I repeat nobody would purchase one.. I used to work at Nobody beats the Wiz store in NY and dvd would sell 4 or 5 titles a day, now anybody has dvd from a rich person to a convicted murderer in God-knows-where-town.. lol What I'm trying to say is let the customer make their decision. Hearing that Paramount/Dreamworks were bribed in 150 millions to stand behind HD is really sad and pathetic. And its even more sad to read:

"I want people to see my movies in the best formats possible. For them to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks! They were progressive by having two formats. No Transformers 2 for me!"

..from Michael Bay's post and hrs later he retracted saying that after watching 300 in HD he now prefers HD, what a bs, desperate to make the sequel he's a freaking coward for not sticking to his ideas. I say NO to this! I'm not buying any title from Paramount or Dreamworks in HD, nobody tells me what to do or which format to buy! I'll continue with good old regular DVD. At the end they'll realize the big mistake they have done! Good thing is from what i've read is that Spielberg is really upset with the whole bribery thing and have plans to release his Universal titles in HD AND Blu ray next year!!

We have had more than enough threads on this topic, but I feel your pain. It's their loss and they will be back to support the superior Blu-Ray format when this war is over.

Hi there, I've been a passive "bystander" here for quite some time now... But this mess is just really irritating, especially with all these rumors popping up. I wish the "insiders" would have kept their mouths for a bit longer, atleast sit on the rumors until they can deny or corfirm in within the next 24/48 hours.

Just tossing us a bone and then clamming up is really annoying.

Anyways, I'll get back to lurking in the shadows now. cheers

You can't ***** about society, it isn't societies fault that people with money and power can bribe or buy anyone, it is the spineless people WITHIN the society...

The belief that there is such a thing as "situational integrity" has done more to tear down values than most anything else. People sleep well at night thinking that its OK they have integrity in one instance but not in another. As far as I am concerned, either a man has integrity or he doesn't - Bay doesn't

Edit:
Glad you are posting ordeith, but your nick doesn't do a lot to inspire trust or confidence

I hate the fact that the studios are trying to make our minds up for us. If I and millions of others want the Blu Ray, then it should be a done deal....and the only way we can get that through thier thick skulls is to write the studios and protest the move. Likewise, the continued support for the Blu Ray titles will carry a big loud voice as well. Nonetheless the transformers / Sherk movie will be on standard def and I'll just purchase those formats, it wont be a TOTAL loss for me, watching it on the 50inch will still be rewarding.

I agree, make another fancy commercial on the PS3 but highlight the Blu Ray. Come to think of it, I haven't seen a PS3 commercial in a while, not even the old ones.

Default Blu domination? Or ongoing war.

I know this subject has been pressed upon a lot but I just wanted to get my whole opinion out about the Universal / Warner Bros. / Paramount / Dreamworks situation out in the open. I believe that Microsoft is trying to keep this damn format war going until they get their sweet online movie downloading service up and running. They will take every ounce of energy into shoving money up any companies nose that will take the bait. Paramount and Universal have taken it. I think Universal is finally seeing the light and deciding that they are supporting a quite possible dead format HD-DUD. Paramount could care less seeing as they probably feel they will make more money just taking the bait from Microsoft, then selling both formats (big mistake).
Universal will most likely go neutral January 2008, unless Microsoft and the whole HD-DVD camp convinces them otherwise. A lot of money goes a long way, heck ever a little does (PARAMOUNT). If Universal does take the bait then... we are screwed ladies and gentlemen. We may have a war that won't be over till possibly 2009 or 2010. We can't have this.
NOT TO MENTION the whole Warner Bros. situation. Right now Warner says neutral is the key... or perhaps until they get enough money shoved right into their hands. If Warner goes neutral, Universal will stay. They know that the numbers will go pretty even between HD and Blu. Because lets face it ladies and gentlemen... If there is no Warner on blu that cuts a good 20-30% of the overall sales. Which leads to blu ray overall 55-60% sales, and HD 40-45% sales... maybe even higher!!!!
This war should have been over, but Microsoft is playing hardball now. The gloves are off. They better not win. Warner is the key truly. If we can get warner Blu exclusive, it will be enough to spring this thing wide open into our favor. The only company left to HD in 2008 will be Paramount and Dreamworks. That means BLU domination. Lets just hope that the cards fall in our favor..

Proud Blu Supporter.

Cool

If Universal wanted to cash in on the holidays, they should go neutral now. Would be the greatest thing to see -- Paramount jumps in, Uni leaps out!!

Default Another example of how this format war is not in the consumers best interest.

I just got the movie "300" in HD and want to play it on PS3. It doesnt even show up on the video column in the load screen when I load it. Do I need to update software or can I even play HD DVD's on it. It won't play in my Sony High Def DVD player either. Thanks for the help..

The majority of consumers have no idea that blu-ray and hd-dvd are 2 completely incompatible seperate formats, which creates fear uncertianty and doubt for the consumer (FUD). This is precisely the biggest threat to the future of HD on disc.

A part of me is almost positive that at least near 10% of HD VD combo owners have no clue they're not watching HD on their DVD players. Confusion works in HD VDs favor completely.

Default Lets hope Blu Wins.

I really hope Warner goes BD exclusive, and it would be really nice if Universal goes neutral. Right now I really feel as if Blu will loose the format war, but I'm staying optimistic and will continue to purchase Blu-ray movies.
It's really all up to Sony and company, they truly need to begin marketing a whole lot more and a whole lot better. It is also up to the consumers, if they say no to HD-DVD than Blu will win. The typical consumer could care less right now about HD-DVD or Blu-ray, or might be lured into the inferior HD-DVD format simply to save a bit of money (players and movies cost a bit less). If Blu companies take over end caps at stores and fill stores with marketing material and push consumers into Blu-ray, the format will be saved.

BD will not lose the format war, I've done alot of thinking aobut this very thing, I understand where you are coming from, but last week (the week Paramount left Blu-ray) the Nielsen/VideoScan Numbers ending August 19th the sales were BD-71% HDD-29% I just copied it from https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=8608 Blu-ray is fighting strong PLUS come christmas more PS3's and Standalone players will be sold, and Blu-ray movies as well, come Jan/Feb '08 we'll see the numbers improve for Blu-ray I'm sure. right now we gotta just have show our support and buy Blu-ray movies

My father didn't think there was an actual format war (thought blu-ray was already the confirmed successor to DVD) and thought HD-DVD was just plain old DVD optimized for HDTVs.

I'd be confused too about this whole HD-DVD vs Blu-ray war if not for the internet.
