I’m set up for 4K and don’t plan to get these. Plenty of films I’ve never owned to get first.

I don’t regret for one minute going 4K ready pretty early in the life cycle of the format. There’s already been so many great UHDs released, and Arrow bringing out spiffing products is just the icing on the cake.

Question:

On Arrow's website, it lists the Battle Royale set as Region-Free. Are they referring to the entire set, or just Battle Royale 1?

I'd be a bit disappointed if it's neither, but if it's just the first Battle Royale. Well, Battle Royale II is region-locked...and it's Battle Royale II. I can take that L with grace.

I loved Battle Royale 2 when I watched it, it's so vociferously anti-american and edgy that the film felt like a fever dream. Visually it left a big impression on me despite its flaws, and I find its mere existence (not to mention its batshit premise) puzzling to this day, I think I'll be picking up the BR and revisit it then.

Maybe, but will be fine just getting the actual film in 4K rather than all the special editions, since I've already bought so many great special editions in regular HD. I've also not experienced 4K so haven't been sold on the idea - then again I wasn't sold on HD 'til I lived in a house with a decent telly, so I guess it'll be down to circumstance. I just don't see myself dipping into these immediately. I get the hype, but it seems like some upgrades seem worth it than others.

True, I see all these 4K discs coming out and the only ones I'm tempted by are my favourite films - generally the Kubrick films, The Big Lebowski, Alien, the Carpenter films, stuff like that. I would probably have bought some of the StudioCanal UHD's, but so far not convinced by the choices from Arrow (Battle Royale would be the biggest temptation so far though, but I honestly wouldn't care about the sequel in 4K).

When I replaced the old tv with a 4k at the back end of 2019 I decided to plunge for a player so I could finally watch a decent edition of Predator one of my favourite films. Then I initially decided just to upgrade only ‘essential’ films where the blus were really outdated such as Big Lebowski, Matrix & Die Hard and pick up new releases of interest. Then it expanded to upgrading almost everything in my collection that had a U.K release. I’ve held off upgrading animated films but it’s a pricey hobby so glad I started when I did and not now or in the future when the library gets more overwhelming. But as you said grabbing a standard disc down the line and keeping the limited Blu set with the reading material is a way to go.

BR2 always felt like a pointless sequel to me. I always consider it to be the Highlander 2 of Japanese cinema. I'm surprise that some people want to see a solo release of it.

Lots of titles for £7.99 on Amazon - the limited edition of After Midnight is £9.49.

One very important thing that many have overlooked with regard to Clapboard Jungle. This link is directly to Arrow's website, but you've got to click on the extras tab to see the fine print at the bottom of the list of extras... I won't spoil it for anyone, but...

I can't recommend this edition enough. Even if you're not big on the main feature, The Battery on the bonus disc is a fantastic character driven zombie film.

When they've had that at the bottom of extras lists before (the Alfredo Garcia limited edition being one example I remember) it's usually meant there are actually more extras in the pipeline that they're just waiting for clearance/permission on.

Will go for Donnie Darko UHD and Clipboard Jungle. I also want to get Battle Royal UHD but I don't really care about those extras for that price. Will there be an UHD reissue with everything except the things that are listed with "[Limited Edition Exclusive]"? Or how does Arrow usually handle releases when the limited editions are sold out?

Given the appeal of the film I would be shocked if a regular edition didn't follow

I just hope that that edition will still include both movies and all different cuts.

I'd assume given some things are specifically listed as [Limited Edition Exclusive] that they're following Second Sight's example with Dawn...I hope at least...

Can you elaborate on Dawn?

Great looking Battle Royale 4k boxset. I love BR, so this was an easy pre-order and a great price for both movies (all 4 cuts) soundtrack CD and all the extra stuff.

The Tom Mes monograph on the film runs 25,000 words, not too bad at all.

Battle Royale: Requiem is a steaming pile of cat shite and it's not coming into my house at any price.

Will wait for a solo UHD release of the original. All I need is the Theatrical Cut and that's it.

If Second Sight can do a standard UHD edition of Dawn of the Dead for £29.99 then Arrow can do the same for Battle Royale.

Dawn had extensive restoration costs on top so I'm thinking Arrow can do it for under £20.

Waiting...
