That is, if he gets moved at all. I do think there's a decent chance he pulls a Le'Veon Bell and just sits out for the season if he can't find an ideal situation.

The NYJ have a ton of draft capital and plenty of money under the cap.

Looks like half the teams in the league are going to purge their rosters this offseason due to salary cap issues. The Saints are in the most trouble with being over $100 million over the cap.

If they are smart they realize it is over with him, the sooner the better prepared they can be to utilize what they get for him. Playing the nothing is wrong game only prolongs the bleeding here imo.

If they're gonna lower the salary cap next year, they should do what the NHL did and let one team release one player cap hit-free. It's only fair since no teams could've seen this coming.

Or even did what the NHL did during its first cap year and do a 24% rollback or some shit.

From most to least attractive in the Texans' eyes, as I see it:

1. Watson changes his mind and plays for the Texans.

2. Watson sits indefinitely and Houston recoups significant money from his contract, while simultaneously disincentivizing any other players from trying to force their way out in the future.

3. They trade Watson to a team in the NFC for a king's ransom that's just too good to refuse. It's not necessarily a team Watson wants to go to, but he just wants to get out of Houston desperately and doesn't see any other option unless he's willing to sit out til the next offseason and yield a significant chunk of money. (This might theoretically sound better than Option 2, but draft picks are inherently unknowable; Watson is a sure thing and I think the Texans want him to stay more than anything.)

4. They trade Watson to a team that he wants to go to, which happens to be in the AFC. Texans get a good trade, but Watson will be a headache for years to come since he stays in the conference, and the Texans ultimately come out losers by now having a team with no star QB, no real offensive weapons, and their one remaining star (Watt) probably leaving soon, too.
